(Sorry if this is the wrong place.)
Would you need a really good resolution 32inch tv as a monitor? Would an average one make your eyes bleed? I would be using it from a distance for playing poker?

No, should be fine. Just make sure TV has a computer input (vga, dvi etc) or your laptop / PC has HDMI output.

If the TV isnt HD Capable you wont get anything readable off the screen. But HDTVs are fantastic as monitors.

I use a TV that is a little bit smaller that is fairly old in a similar manner. It is flat screen, but not HD or anything. I use it as a media center, watching videos and listening to music on it.

I think this kind of setup would be fine for playing poker, but I don't like using it to surf around too much or do too much reading with it, because reading text on it can be a little difficult.

if you have an LCD tv WITH A VGA / HDMI inut then it will probably have a resolution of 1388 x 768 give or take

not sure about plasma, but you need the inputs

old analogue TV's have a very low resolution - think 525 lines with a refresh rate of 25Hz
the original 640x480 at 60hz WITHOUT colour was aimed at TV's , but over here we run at 50Hz so never really worked

if your comoputer has a tv out signal and you use it for the TV then it will do for poker or playing video but not wordprocessing
