An odd one - Im near pulling my hair out

    Okay I have had a dead XFX 780i SLi board that would just show FF but no boot, so I swapped it out for an EVGA 780i SLi mobo
    All boots ok from reading the display on the mobo, but the system will not display any video from a card higher than a 7200GS in the PCIex slot 1
    Any card that needs external power and is in slot 1 will not show video.

    I have tried an 8800GT, 9800GT a 260, 280 and 285 with no result. The only card that works is the 7200GS one.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    All other components have been tested ok as well as the PSU.
    original card 8800GT works in other systems, so I know its not a card issue.

    I'd suggest trying the 8800GT in another system with your PSU as a starting point.

    edit: Or borrowing another PSU and testing with that in your system.

    Aye done that
    Infact I have used 3 PSUs, all corsair 650, 750 and 1kw in 2 different systems (intel p45 chipset and an nVidia 790i SLi) both working ok.

    Btw the 8800GT and any other card work in slots 2 and 3, but the system cannot normally function with them in those slots.

    bleh, should have read yoru second post.

    Sound like the mobo is ****ed tbh, RMA it through EVGA, they are pretty awesome.
