    Hi there,

hoHope I could get some advice and maybe someorganisation that i could contact-

I work in an american company and they are going to close my positon,I'm in permanent contact-They're going to go rid off all the temporary people too-

As I am permanent they gave me an alternative a temporary position covering a maternity leave...but I feel that they are just showing me the door as once I'll be temporary they will be able to get rid off me nicely-

I have been in this company for than 1.5year an half now- I had some personal issues, depression for the past year which affected my daily work but I'm fine now-got a counsellor and I'm almost sorted now...so I know it's not the end of the wold-

Still I wonder if they can stop my full permanent contract and gave me a temporary one-not sure if this is legal or even the real truth-

If I could get some advice or who I could contact to know what would be my best move on this I will gladly appreciate it

Many thanks in advance for your help:)

So they want to make your current position redundant, and are willing to offer you a temporary position for a few months in its place?

    From http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/unemployment-and-redundancy/redundancy/redundancy-procedures:

"If your employer makes you a reasonable offer of alternative work, and you refuse it, you may lose your entitlement to a redundancy payment. Generally speaking, alternatives which involve a loss of status or worsening of the terms and conditions of your employment would not be considered reasonable."

So it sounds like your new position would not be considered reasonable.

I get the feeling though that if you turn down their offer you will just be made redundant.

AFAIK if you take that temporary maternity cover role, you won't be entitled to any redundancy at the end of it.

what is worry me the most is not the redundancy but the fact that I'll go forom a permanent to a temporary...which means that I might being let go then...without nothing- as they are closing step by step my department-and the position they are offering me is in this same dpt:cool:

anyhow in both cases sounds like I'm out of the game:(

Thank you very much for your help at least I know what should be my next move...find a a new job:rolleyes:

that means that I can refuse the position based on the fact that the position that they are offering is not reasonable as I go from a permanent and temporary and I will still stay redundant?(I'm not really aware how this work)

    Thanks

I'm not an expert, but that is my interpretation of it.

It might be worth your while asking the same question at www.askaboutmoney.com - lots of solicitors use that site.

So your two options is either to get let go right now (no redundancy anyway as you're not in the company for 2 years) as your position is no more or get a temporary contract for another 6 to 12 months and then let go. I'd know which one I'd go for...
