Is amybody using this little round and what do you think of it

This little round seems to hold some advantages over its cousin the 17HMR.

1# It causes less damage to meat on small game
2# Its nearly as flat out to 100 yards as the the 17HMR but its a lot cheaper,

In terms of small game it seems a good choice..

Has this little round died before it ever got started or will it slowly come of age??

Well has anybody seen this ammo for sale here in Ireland (north inc).


No response so i have to assume that nobody ever bothered with this smaller 17 caliber, but i suppose there was a boom and people dint think about costs(then) so now this might change.

I'd imagine that the rifles that are chambered for Hm2 are alot cheaper than those chambered for HMR because of the direct fit from the 22lr production line.

A Down turn could spell a little life for this under rated round..

Ivan I have not seen any ammo for the HMR 2 and to be honest I think you will have problems getting some. I know its even a problem over in the uk. I remember reading a while back that there was talk of getting rid of it all togeather as there was little or no demand (not sure if that was in a magazine or on another forum)

I think the round is too young to judge its quaility compared to its older brother.

I can imagine that the cost advantage is a plus. The reduced energy could be considered a pro or a con, depending on situation.

.17 HM2
@ 100 yards. Velocity 1530 fps. Energy 88 ft.lbs
@ 150 yards, Velocity 1304 fps, Energy 64 ft.lbs, Drop 4.4"


.17 HMR
@ 100 yards. Velocity 1901 fps. Energy 136 ft.lbs
@ 150 yards, Velocity 1630 fps, Energy 99 ft.lbs, Drop 2.6"

and I just noticed that the CZ is not available in HM2 as a leftie gun ...

I have a ruger in hm2 I found it good for the bunnies but I always bring the hmr instead I just prefer it for some reason.

Hey foxhunter what are the average price of rounds for the hm 2 ?? How would you compare it on sound towards the HMR is it as loud ?

Around €10 to €12 for a box of hornady and it souind exactly like an un modified .22 high velocity federal or any of the brands.

Hay foxhunter do you buy your ammo from the same shop you bought the gun in and do you manage to buy the same ammo in other deals around the country or have you tried!

PS could you PM me the name/location of your dealer supplying hm2 ammo.
