    Hi Folks,

I need to put up a few bat boxes as part of my REPs 4 Plan.

I was wondering has anyone sourced and purchased bat boxes in ROI?

I have done a good bit of googling and can only see them for sale in the UK. Even Teagasc & the Bat Conservation of Ireland both have links to sites in the UK.

Given the current economic climate I'd prefer to shop local.

    Regards and thanks...

my son made up ours, & also done some for the neighbours as a nixer, hasn't much time at present, as he is studying for his Leaving next june, and helping me with the lambing in his free time

you would run them yourself for few euro.

Have a look at this page for links to many designs of batboxes to diy:

the attached diy pdf is from this page, and they suggest the use of cedar. I think that ordinary deal could be used instead of ceder, but I am unsure if it is appropiate to used tanalised wood.

    Folks,

Thanks for your replies to this. I'll have to get out some wood and a tenon saw... you never know I might set up a little cottage industry myself ;)

The Transition Year students in Moyne Community School, Co. Longford are manufacturing nesting boxes for the REPS 4 scheme. These boxes featured recently in the Farmers Journal are made from 15mm pressure treated timber with a slate roof. They are selling to farmers in bundles of 8 for €80. One euro from each box is being donated to Crumlin Children's Hospital. We have employed the service of a courrier and can deliver to anywhere in Ireland. We won't be beaten on price or quality! Email me dohertypadraig@gmail.com or contact the school (049) 4335114.
