[Berget 7] Accommodation bookings

    Hey guys,

First some ground rules; I don't want anybody who isn't going to Berget (and thus in need of accommodation before and after) posting in this thread in order to keep the noise to a minimum. Secondly; no messing about on this thread please.

For last year's event (Berget 6, 2008) most of those who attended travelled Monday to Monday thus requiring two nights in Stockholm. We stayed in a very good hostel on the inbound Monday night and I would recommend it again to anybody who wants it this time around. On the outbound trip we booked into the Sheraton hotel (5-star) just opposite Central station for the night (Sunday) since at the time it worked out €25 dearer than the 3-star offerings and was directly opposite Central station for both our train back from Sundsvall and for the express train to the airport the next morning.

Before I go any further; I would like to itterate the following disclaimer: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO WHAT I (and others) ARE DOING.

Some people are flying into Stockholm on Sunday 21st, some on Monday 22nd of June. Most are flying back out on the Monday 29th June. Most are - to the best of my knowledge - intending to travel up North by train on Tuesday 23rd and back on Sunday 28th.

The above dates, in whatever combination you want, leaves three nights in Stockholm (21st, 22nd, 28th).

This time around, due to the minimal transportation efforts involved in getting to the Sheraton, I and others are planning on spending all three nights there, although there are two seperate bookings as a result obviously. Room rates are as follows for each night:

    Sunday 21st: €168
    Monday 22nd: €168
    Sunday 29th: €189

The breakdown in price per person sharing (two per room) is as follows:

    Sunday 21st: €84
    Monday 22nd: €84

Total: €168 per person (for two nights)

    Sunday 29th: €94.5

    Total (all three nights): €262.50

The only caveat to the above is that the first two nights must be paid up-front in full as part of the sheraton's january sale and the prices per night are not available individually. The last night can be paid at the desk on arrival. More on this in a minute.

I can get a discounted group-rate (I don't know what it is yet and wont until I have an idea of numbers) on the above if we book 10+ rooms.

    So I would like to ask the following of everyone who is going (and pull the finger out to decide soon because I am not hanging around on this);
    • If you are flying on the Sunday, are you interested in this deal?
    • Regardless of the first two nights accommodation, are you interesteed in getting a room for the last night?

I already have a few names and upwards of 6 rooms, so group rates are entirely possible if we get a few more people in. If you want to avail of the first two nights - I will make the booking bUt I will want money from you up front considering how much I am going to have to pay out. That can either be sorted in person or via paypal (with the added 3.4% for paypal charges)

    The list so far:
    • Lemming (all three nights)
    • OzCam (first two nights, third night maybe)
    • Senordingdong (all three nights)
    • Tommyboy71 (all three nights)
    • Gerrowdat (all three nights)
    • Dar (all three nights)
    • Shiva (all three nights)
    • Masada (all three nights)
    • Devilsbreath
    • Conkey
    • Cuddlesworth

So folks, get busy deciding what you want to do. If you're interested, put your name down and for which nights. If you have to pull out or are organising your own elsewhere, let us know. Or you can pm me.

Just bought a motorbike have zero spare cash. Not being quiet on this out of choice, just don't know if I can get the money.

edit, Conkey signed me up. Ahh well, selling my body for cash should net me a few euro.

I should be up for 3 but I wont have the cash for a few weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

I'm definitely in for the Sunday on the way back, more than likely also for the 2 nights on the way over, wont have the cash until next payday (at the end of the month) though.

If you can't pay, or are unwilling to spread the load to your own credit card temporarily, the only other option is to book your own room(s) at your convenience. Expecting someone to carry the can for several people for a month or more is not on. Four people (two rooms) alone for the first two nights is €672, just to put this in perspective. Times that by (so far) roughly four (there are others I've asked to put their names on the list who said they wish to avail) and you're sitting around €2.5k

I'm sorry but it's just not an option. I don't have that kind of money at the moment.

Definitely agree with you, the amount involved is too much and it would be unrealistic to expect you to pay that amount when people could end up pulling out.

If the booking is going ahead before the end of the month I will either send it to you via paypal so that it goes onto my credit card or make other arrangements. I was merely mentioning that as if several other people are in the same position, it might be worth holding off on booking the hotel until the end of the month (provided the rooms are still going to be available then)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

Ok, but if all the rooms aren't booked at the same time, do we still avail of the discount?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

    Dont think so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

    Ten four.

For the prices as quoted for the first two nights, you can avail of them yourselves. For the last night, that's a rate I've been given over the phone. If we can get 10+ rooms booked for the either first two nights and/or the last night, there are further reductions in prices, but it needs to be a single booking.

Incidentally, cut off for this is next Monday (i.e. when I return from Stirling Airsoft).

I'v ebeen a bit tardy with this, so I'm making cut off as this friday coming. Get your names down or forfeit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,674 ✭✭✭Skatedude

I'll book my own room next week as i have to wait to see how much my car will cost when i get it back from the garage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,156 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

I've extended this until Friday 27th Feb to allow people who are maybe wanting to see what pay-day finances are going to be like before committing to this.

So, if you're interested, stick your name down and the nights preferred..

When I say Friday 27th, I mean Friday 27th as sign-up deadline. I'll be contacting the hotel on the Saturday to check availability of rooms, and then subsequent booking on Monday with the girl in question who gave me the room prices. At that point I will be looking for fees in short order.

So in summary; Friday = signup deadline. Monday (or very shortly thereafter). Pay.

I'm going to be sorting all of this this afternoon Tommy, I was a bit busy over the weekend. I'll be doing the rounds of phone calls just to confirm. If anyone wants in and hasn't put their names in or were sitting on the fence, now's the time to stick the name in. I'll be back to my PC sometime just after lunch and sitting down to get it all done then.

Ok folks, just to give all of those who're in the heads up. I'm waiting until Wednesday as horgan_p is chasing up a couple of Cork lads for the return trip, which will push us into group-discount territory for the last night.

I will be contacting the Sheraton tomorrow regardless to get room number & price confirmations along with added info on what the discounted rate will be if the additional two rooms are ready to run.

Breakdown is as follows at moment of writing:

    Incoming (Sun 21st - Mon 22nd): 13 people (7) rooms.
    Outgoing (Sun 28th): 15 people (8) rooms.

Group discount is for 10 rooms or more. In my honest opinion I dont' think we'll find the extra people for the inward bound trip. Outbound is distinctly possible, but nonetheless budget for the figures I've written on the first page until I hear anything better.

More definitive news in the next couple of days.

    Lucky for you guys the Krona is in the toilet right now. It is impossible to say if the value of the Krona will be better or worse before June, however it might be worth thinking about pre-paying while the exchange rate is favorable (This means of course you want to get the prices for things listed in Krona);

We're all in the toilet together, mate. Ireland's losing 1,000s of jobs every week. Getting the money together is becoming a serious concern for many of us. It all tends to even out.

My point was, as long as you do have euro's, they are worth more in krona then they have ever been before. Of course if you don't have any euro to begin with there is no difference, but as it stands, things (fuel, food, transport) right now in sweden cost less (in EUR) then they did at the last game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭OzCam

    I guess we're both right then. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,156 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

    Unff!!!! Thank you kjsaw! :pac:

Ok folks, I have both room number availability confirmed for both sets of nights AND ....

price drop courtesy of the Euro/SEK rate.

    Revised rates are:
    • Sunday 21st: €141 per room (€70.50 per person sharing)
    • Monday 22nd: €141 per room (€70.50 per person sharing)
    • Sunday 28th: €164 per room (€82.00 per person sharing)
    • Total (three nights, shared): €223
    • Total (three nights, not shared): €446

The rate I'm getting on the last night wont get us group discount since it's a special rate and the girl can't drop it any further.

I don't know. Hadn't asked, but I will verify when I make the booking on thursday morning (as said, just waiting on word from horgan_p by tomorrow).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,156 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

Bookings are proceeding. The sheraton has the list of names and payment details. They require some additional information so it will most likely be monday morning when they get to review the submitted information and proceed.

I have 13 names going out, I have 21 names coming back. If you are not on that list (and you all know who you are), you will have to sort your own accommodation.

Payment ASAP please folks. If you aren't paypalling it, please pm me and let me know how/when you will be paying.

    ASI Casper wrote: »

I have asked and the rate for the last night didn't, and she didn't know about the first two nights. She said she'd check to see if it was possible to add breakfast if not included and if not, how much it would cost to do so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,156 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

    Bookings complete.

As to the breakfast question, unfortunately it isn't added. I was however given the following:

Basically if you want to get a full buffet breakfast it's 245 SEK (€21), but you can order room service or get coffe and a croissant or whatever and the prices will be variable, so it's up to each person to decide what they want to do - the buffet price is there as a standard if you will.

Thus far I have eight people paid up, with another 8 being sorted (from Cork) in one payment. Can I have those who have yet to pay please let me know what they're doing ASAP.

Breakfast at teh Sheraton is not too bad, though for 245 SEK, given your central location, you can probably find something better easy enough.

Yeah, I just put that there as the "higher end" of what you might expect to pay for breakfast. It's annoying that you need to worry about what breakfast might cost and where since it's not included in the deal but such is the way of things I guess.

Oh well, there'll be a few disgruntled, sleepy Irish folk wandering the streets of Stockholm in a daze muttering about food at 8am. Declare a national emergency :p
