My GP was to make arrangements to refer me to the local public pychiatrist in Mid December. Its now the end of January and I've heard nothing. Asked my GP and he said he would 'look into it'.

How long does it normally take to get an appointment??

The best thing to do is ask for the name of the consultant you were referred to. Get the number of the hospital/clinic/secretary and ring yourself to check whether they got your letter and when your appointment will be. I usually warn people that it takes up to four weeks to get an appointment letter. If they don't, then they have to check. By the way the appointment letter mostly only goes to the patient, though one of the exceptions may be psychiatry.
