    Hello,

I just got a flat and i'm trying to take the wheel off and it won't budge, I haven't taken a wheel off this car since I bought it over a year ago so I guess it's just stuck, anyone have any tricks for getting it off???

Is it the bolts that are stuck, or the wheel itself. if its the wheel a few smacks of something heavy, like a lump hammer should do the trick.

If you can get a longer bar into the wheel brace it will give you more leverage and might help you shift it.

Get a lonnger extension bar for the wheel brace.
Give the bolts a sharp belt with a hammer & wide punch (just the once).
Use some freeze spray on the bolts.
Spray some WD40 on the bolts and leave for a few hours (make sure none gets on the disks/pads).

Jack the car up, loosen all the bolts, lower the car slowly until the wheel is taking the weight, the weight of the car should 'pop' them, then jack it up again and you should be good to go.

Had this problem 2 weeks ago with my wife's car. Don't have a lump hammer so tried kickin it off (to no avail).

Ended up swinging the spare wheel at the tyre of the car that was stuck on. Worked a treat.

Will the nuts come off, but not the wheel? If so, loosen all the nuts a bit but leave them on. Slowly drive the car and pull the handbrake. Try the same in reverse. Be careful with the nuts, you want them loose enough that the wheel can break free of the hub, but tight enough that the wheel stays on the car. You do this is completely at your own risk.:)

When refitting smear copper grease on the hub to stop it happening again.

A few taps of a lump hammer inwards (using a socket/crossbar or even a bolt) or else plenty of leverage on wheel brace ........ wd40 as well ...... but make sure car is on ground not jacked up when trying to "break" them free

Soak it in WD40 for an hour if possible. Lash it out of it.

BTW don't SPRAY IT ON YOUR BRAKE DISC.

As already mentioned use copper grease on the mounting surface on re-assembly. I reckon do all four wheels now before it gets out of hand.

**Do not use an hammer (could damage the alloy) or WD40 for this (waste of 6 euro)**

I had to take off alloys for a car the other day that hadn't had its wheels changed since it was bought in 05 and the wheels were solidly stuck. I went to buy WD40 to remove but a mechanic advised me not to.

This requires elbow grease to remove, he advised, but i promise it will come out.

Simply loosen all bolts, jack the car up, place spare tyre under car for saftey, remove all bolts and keep banging/kicking the tyre at all corners to try an rock it out of place, but be carefull of the jack.

Keep doin this and eventually it will start to move. I think this maybe down to a build up residue from the brack pads.

do you not hit the tire with the hammer - if using a hammer.

I think this happens because of the different metals used in the alloys and the hub

Yes its usually caused by a build up of aluminum oxide fur due to dissimular metals being in contact, its best to smear them with vasaline to prevent this reocurring. Your wheel bearings wont last long if you thump the wheel with a hammer, get a long wooden plank and hit the tyre from the inside.
