    Hi,

I have a read that there is a common turbo failure on 320d E46. I'm buying a 05 in the UK and im curious is this something i should be concerned about or is it a specific year or batch of them that had this problem? now the mileage is quite low on the car, only 20k which is rare, service history is included so i guess i can confirm the mileage there. cheers

    Jonathan

As far as I know the problematic cars were sold between late 2001 (facelifted 150bhp 320d) to possibly early 2004.

Try this site (assuming it had an offical recall):

    http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp

Otherwise maybe a phone call to BMW's head office.

More of a problem is the swirl flaps in the inlet manifold breaking off and being injested into the engine. This will write off the engine. It was fixed in late '05 models however. You need to do more research into this on BMW forums etc. Another rumour is that the EGR valves on these cars are best removed or cleaned every 60kmls.
