    Hi Folks,

Can anyone give me a list of popular 4x4s that definitely fall into Category C for VRT purposes.
I've been scouring the motors forum and getting some contradictory info on which cars do and don't.
I do understand what the requirements are for the vehicle to fall into Category C - but it would be great to have a list to work from.

    Cheers,

    R :)

For sure, the nissan navara KING CAB and the mitsubshi L200 CLUB CAB.
As long as you remove the two small back seats, remove back seat belts and black-out the rear windows, you can clear these for 50 euros.
    Otherwise, any single cab pickup.

The rules are, single row of seats, cargo area at least 45% of wheel base and I think a separation between the cab and cargo area.

    Excellent!

Can anyone add to the list of definites?

Separation between the cab and cargo area must be permanent, with no means of access between the two areas. Mounting sockets of removed seats/belts must be welded so they cannot be re-used.

See here pages 15-16 in particular.

    I have the licence.

    B > 3500kg
    C1 > 7500kg
    C > 18000kg

Just to follow up, I have since learned that once the vehicle has cleared customs, the seats and seatbelts can be re-installed legally (and tested).

As far as I know the Ford Ranger King cab will also qualify (be careful though as some of these have a petrol engine), and again any single cab pickup will qualify.

    Happy shopping:D

So a C licence cannot be used to drive a 4000 kg truck? Wrong.

Wouldn't this involve payment of passenger car VRT?

it must be an old licence then, i got my C licence last year
    B<3500kg
    C1<7500kg
    C>3500kg

thats what my licence says, it doesnt give a weight for the C licence,
i drive a 32 ton 4 axle bin lorry, what licence do i need by ur assumptions???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 317 ✭✭bikki

Well the C is anything up to 18000kg, i think the 32 ton is a EC1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,585 ✭✭✭✭guil

ha ha are u serious,C is anythin over 3500kg, EC1 is only upto 12000kg

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 317 ✭✭bikki

well the EC license is the Artic License.

    C1 is 3500 kg to 7500 kg
    C is 3500 kg to 18,000kg

Actually i stand correted, its 18 ton on 2 axels and 32 on 4

Not a troll at all. You came on here with a blatantly wrong statement and when told this by another poster (not me) you reply with "I have the licence" basically claiming to be the authority on the subject when in fact you have continued to get things completely mixed up.

This thread is not even about licencing though so back to vrt hopefully

We got a bit off track there, but if anyone knows any more VRT Cat C 4x4s , please add them - I think it would very useful for people searching the forum to have a comprehensive list of models to refer to.

    Ruatha, look what you've started!

You asked a simple vrt question and now you have two or three fellas argueing over licenses and another 'know it all' throwing insults around!
    BRILLIANT!
What I said is true, cleared and registered the truck last Wednesday, put the seats back in on Thursday morn. , tested it in the afternoon and drove it home.
As regards the D-Max crew cab, I'm pretty sure you would be charged 13% omsp on that one.

    I aim to please! ;)

Speaking of the D-Max, I could have done with one coming home from college yesterday.......
So, which criteria does the D-max not meet in order to qualify for the €50 VRT??

The fact that you mentioned crew cab!
This generally means that it has a full back row of seats and that the bed is too short in relation to the wheel base. I don't know if they make a kingcab.

    Hi Ruatha,
Did you ever get anywhere with extending your 4x4 list.
I would like to purchase a Landrover 90 pickup truck. Unsure whether I can get this imported into Ireland as a VRT Class C or not. (50euro as opposed to 13.5%)

I wish I liked pickups rather than little sporty coupes, because the value to be had by going the Cat D route is just unbelievable.
Do any of the new shape Hilux fall under this scheme, they're fabulous machines...
