Is it worth trying selling my car or waiting?

My car is BMW 318 automatic 60k on the clock, great condition still under warranty. Been trying to sell it for 12k (bought for 17k in March 08), but the market for it still seems dead. What I don't understand is how the dealers often are looking for considerably more than what I'm asking for? Are they just sitting tight until sales start moving again? Would it not be a a very long time for car sales to get moving again considering the crisis where in? I've seen some cars on carzone.ie like mine selling for as little as 9k though having said this. Its not urgent but I don't want to wait a very long time, will I have to ask for as little as this to sell this car now?

    The market is indeed, dead.

And you aren't even counting all the people trying to sell, couldn't and have taken them back off the market.

The market to sell is much bigger than the ads, even.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Stick it in the Evening Herald. You'd be amazed at how many people still look in the paper for a car!

Put it this way to you, used car prices are only going one way so if you want to sell it then price it realistically. A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, not what the seller thinks it's worth.

    Otherwise hold on to it.

It depends if your getting another car though, you may have to sell your car for less than you think its worth but if your buying second hand you will pick up another car cheap at this stage
