    Hi All,

I got laid off in late November, as I was originally born in Scotland, the social welfare office have been incredibly awkward to me. I thought I was going to get a new role which fell through in early December. So I've been out of work for around two months now.

I called the office up, which has a ridiculously long lunch hours much as I discovered this week when I turned up during it and it was closed. When I spoke to them on the phone they asked for my mothers birth cert as I was not born in Ireland, and they have a different address on file for me from when I was living in a different part of Dublin. I live with one flatmate.

So I'm planning on going down there tomorrow. However I will be away from the next week due to a family occasion outside Ireland, My question is how long does the process take and what should I expect and how quick. In my last job I was there for two years and was earning in the upper 20k's.

    Hi

Why do they need your mothers birth cert?

How long have you lived in Ireland? / How many years working and paying PRSI?

Seems strange to me. I am British and have lived here a few months and wasn't asked for mothers birth cert.......although I have been waiting for a means test for 2.5 mths (husband was working got laid off last week, been looking after 9mth old and applying for jobs - over 100 apps a few interviews but no luck yet)

    Fran
