    Selling on my car now.

It is a 95 civic 1.5 vtec saloon. Jap import. 140 Km on the clock. It is in good condition. The Honda badge and the car name at the back is in a Gold trim(Will that add value?)

How much should i put it on the free ads for?

a couple of hundred euro at the moment i'd say.

gold badges won't get you a penny extra!

Car details might make it more attractive looking though.

You should start buy putting it up on www.adverts.ie anyway. Thats a boards.ie site so if there is something odd with the add like WAY overpriced someone might tell you

Very like this one except a year newer and a 1.5 dohc vtec model.

Would i be wrong in asking around the 3000 - 4000 euro mark?

very wrong. Keep an eye on that carzone ad. It shouldn't be hard because it'll be there for a while

Not a chance of getting 3-4k for your car unfortunately!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 122 ✭✭Síle28

Right now you would be lucky to get about €500 for it, it's not a good time for selling 2nd hand cars, great time to get a bargain if you buy though! My dad had a one year old perfect condition car and couldnt get a decent quote as a trade in on a new car, had to go around lots of dealers until he got an ok one, that was about €4000-€5000k for only 1 year old last november!!

I still think everyone here is well wrong. I nearly put my car on it that if i gave some 500 euro they would not have a hope in hell of coming up with the same spec car.

bear in mind the car in that link is a 1.6 DOHC vtec model with 168bhp as standard and it looks in good condition.

yours is the 1.5 vtec model, which iirc is a SOHC with 130bhp, are you sure its a DOHC model?

i could be wrong? but i didnt think there was a 1.5 DOHC model:confused:

you might not sell it for €500 but you won't sell it for much more than that.

I know of someone who parted with a 05 Pug 406 1.8 for €3500 recently.

A 14 year old Jap motor with over 100K miles on the clock will not fetch more than a few hundred euro. Have a look at carzone, filter by price range less than 4K and see the option you have. Then try and justify your valuation.

That car is worth buttons now.

Might be lucky to get a grand for it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,270 ✭✭✭tin79

sure try but expect a long wait. it would take some chump to part with 4K for a car that old with that spec, given what else you could have for 4K. but you never know.

you might get 1-2 k for it.

You see, that's missing the point completely. It's about what the buyer is willing to pay, and people are now much more reluctant to part with cash - especially on an unknown that could end up costing them a lot more, like a 14 year old car with 140k sold privately with no warranty.

I know little or nothing about cars. There is a DOHC sticker on the car.

From this they made a 1.5 DOHC engine.

In the mid 1980s, Honda's top engine in the Civic was the DOHC ZC delivering 130ps and redlining at a high 7200rpm. This engine powered the top Honda Civic models; the EF6 & EF7 Civic/CRX Si. In 1989, Honda invented VTEC, implementing it first in the DA6 Integra RSi & XSi in April and followed by the EF8/EF9 CRX/Civic SiR towards the end of that year. Honda continuously refined VTEC and migrated it to other engines and one of the first benefactors was the D15B.

    Rest of the article

This is the model on my car if you search using

    The Amazing 3-stage VTEC EK3

I have seen plenty stickers on cars which don't belong to them, GTi badges on Corsas, V12 badges on run of the mill mercs.

regards of the badge and the engine, the reality is yours is a 14 year old Civic and in today's market is worth at the most €1000 and at that would prove very hard to sell.

But with all due respect OP at the end of the day it is a 14 year old Civic saloon, if you get an offer of €1500 or more, I'd take it.

BTW OP nobody here is trying to disrespect you or your car but you did ask for folks to value it.

If you get more for it then kudos to you.

I know people are not trying to disrespect me or my car. Ye can disrespect the car if you want I have no interest or knowledge of them.
So far everyone is saying it is worth 200 euro. Still no one has put up a car similar to it for for 200 or even 1000 for sale anywhere in the country.

well you need to post a link or pics of your car tbh.
even the 1.5 130bhp version would be less disired as the DOHC 160bhp version is a little animal imo

can you post a picture or a link to what your engine bay looks like as that will awnser the question very quickly.

i reakon 800-1200 max if the car is minty miny mint

Who ever is saying 500 euro. Stop being stupid. This is one of those cars that young lads kill for, there's that stigma attached with them. I was talking to a fella today who got €4k for a 97 Civic, english import, with anpainted front and back bumper and bonnet. (Although it had some 190bhp engine in it) I think it's mad, but they will pay for it.

They wouldn't be a car i'd have any interest in, or pricing, but i most certainly know it's worth will make more than €500.

it would also depend on what cersion the car is.
the 97 that your friend sold is the EK shape, and at 190bhp (probably not that high tbh) was more than likely a VTi which started like at 158bhp so would be decent car to start off with.

if the OP's car is the older EG version and also the lower spec 130 bhp or even the lower spec 1.5 115bhp version, it would be worth considerbly less imo

Actually, you are right in what you are saying. But in all cases, a Honda Civic coupe with whatever the engine, is going to be worth something to someone.

i know a coupe is the most desired version, but the OP has the saloon model which is why we think its worth a little less.

The saloon civic is a much sought after car and you would sell it no problem for at least E2,500

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭Big Nasty

Given the way things are, the best way to put a value on it is to start with the lowest price for the same make and model in similar condition on a UK website, add the VRT for same and price accordingly.

no way is it worth that. if it was the 1.6 DOHC version, then i would guess it was worth nearly that but not the 1.5 SOHC 130bhp or 115bhp model.

as said above, the OP should put it up for sale and see how he gets on.

It's pretty obvious that €4-5k was the cost to change, not the value of the car! Your Focus is worth €187.50, btw. :D

Even in this recession/depression, there will be boy wacers who will pay mad money for a Civic with gold badges.

what a car is advertised at is not necessarily what it's worth. it doesn't mean someone will pay that for it. 14 year old car with that many miles is worth less than you'd expect.

for 3 or 4 thousand, i'd want alot more than a 95 civic?
