    Hi everyone,

I work for a multinational that will be closing up shop in Ireland shortly. We intend to submit a proposal to the parent company outlining what we think is a fair redundancy package.

Obviously we will be looking for the best package we can get and were wondering if anyone has details on previous :)good:) redundancy packages. We could then use these as a basis for discussion with out employers.

Time is running out and any help that anyone can offer would be appreciated!

What sector of the economy does this multinational company work in?
Has there ever been a redundancy package on offer before?

The company is in the technology sector. That's all I can say really at the moment. We're interested in any details to further our case pharmaceutical, maunfacturing ,R&D, etc. . as opposed to the building sector.

    Any details appreciated!

my employer, in the pharma sector is offering voluntary package of 5 weeks per year + 2 statutory, capped at 2 years salary, or €100,000 which ever is lower.

If you could get 5 + 2 you would be doing well. Also if you could get a budget arranged for a consultant company to come in to give advice on retraining/upskilling for the employees that would be good.

You could also ask for a training budget and run some courses in house before you shut up shop, course's like effective CV writing, good interview practice etc etc...

You can sell this by saying that it would be a great PR move and that it will look better than just handing over cash, it would look like the company is taking an interest in what will happen to their employees after they have left.

I would recommend cashing in on any money available, live off some savings and look for any kind of available work. I had to spend a bit of time temping which was infuriating, but now i am back in work, and its nice!

    Xterminator,

Thanks for the info. We're really looking for specific instances so we can say company X gave Y to it's employees. I'm not sure if you can legally name your company but if you would it be helpful.

    Murphym7,

Thanks for the advice, we're currently looking into those areas but appreciate the heads up.

    Everyone,

If you have information that could help, please advise!

I got made redundant in September from a large US multinational. Our jobs were being relocated to Poland and India and we were informed of this 6 months beforehand. The package we got was 10k up front, 1 extra months salary per each kid, 3 extra months salary if we stayed until the redundancy date (knowledge transfer) instead of leaving early for a new job, and something like 2 weeks for each year worked, can't remember exactly what it was, was a fraction. I was there 3 years and 1 month (no kids) and after tax was deducted I was left with 12 months take home pay.

Two places to get this information.

First try the Labour Court website - www.labourcourt.ie - search their recommendations for redundancy. The companies are named, the circumstances of the redundancy are given and the amounts offered are also shown.

Secondly, there is a publication called Industrial Relations News - www.irn.ie - which would have similar information but you may need to subscibe to it to get the information.
