Opening a business in the UK while living in Ireland

    Hello,

I originally posted in the Business forum, they suggested it might be more appropriate here.

I'm thinking of opening a business based in the UK, is this straightforward to do while being a resident of Ireland?

Would I just pay all taxes etc in the UK and not have to worry about anything here?

If I paid myself a salary from this company would I have to declare it as earnings here?

Finally what is the deal with UK companies that also have Irish websites.

For example, beds.ie is a UK based seller of beds, yet they have an .ie domain name. Do they have to register as a company here to do so or could you have an .ie address while still doing all your business in the UK?

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Blobert
the tax implications for you will basically be, that as you are irish resident and most likely ordinarily resident, you will be taxed here on your worldwide income. when you set up the business in the UK, you will have to register for tax in the UK and do the usual stuff of making returns etc. any taxes paid in the UK, will be taken to account here when you file your form 11 or CT1 or whatever it is you are filing. there are various rules if you are meerly setting up a branch of an existing business here or opening a new business, ( vat) any salary you pay yourself from the UK business will be taxed here gross and a credit given for UK PAYE suffered..
