I am having problems with tight calfs and have been to the physio and they recommended getting a regular massage to get rid of the tension.

Does any one have any recommendations for places in the Dundrum area?

There used to be a girl called Beth Mccluskey who worked out of Columbus college, near enough to Dundrum, maybe someone has a number for her I would really recommend her and in Dundrum village I think theres a guy who helps out with the top athletes, can't think of his name though. Sorry for the lack of info but maybe others can add to mine.

The guy in Dundrum Woddle is thinking of is Ciaran Fitzpatrick. He deals with a lot of the Irish athletes, as good a recommendation as you can get really. PM me if you'd like his contact details. I seriously can't recommend him high enough.

I'll second this, been going to him for 7 years or so. A word of advise though....bring some tissues as you'll be crying if its your calfs!!

    :D

Hey people, Physios are not good!!!! they rub u a bit then put a damn machine on u!! take it from a former World Champ Althete!! The best In Ireland at the min is Mike Carswell, a former rugby player for South Africa, he treats most Irish and Uk Olympic athetes and has worked with alot of F1 teams. Ciaran Fitzpatrick is not a physiotherapist, he's a physical therapist, wouldn't know what a machine looked like! He's from teh same school of thought as Hartman (one of the best physios in teh world...Radcliff has him practically on retainer!!) who also thinks quite highly of Ciaran. Again, I will recommend Ciaran, top notch.

Oh, and I wouldn't be posting people's names and numbers...might get random calls of forum trolls!!

Have to say - another vote for Ciarán here. Just took a chance and went to him over the weekend after seeing some good reviews on boards. Went with a dodgy shoulder and he was absolutely brilliant. Recommended him to another friend of mine - which I'd usually be very slow to do. But she was delighted with him too.

Just thought I'd give a little credit where it's due.

Bumping this very old thread because its new to me, and based on googling his name. Got a rec from Krusty, and I went to see Ciaran Fitzpatrick today, he was nothing short of brilliant, no wonder he works on so many of the top guys. I've been previously hesitant seeing physio's, based on past experience, but this guy is what you want. Best money I spent in a long while.

+1 for Ciaran. The 2 niggles I've had over the last year, he sorted them both out straight away.

another name I would recommend is a girl call Catriona Tipping ....( sister of Ex Irish Rugby internnational Malcolm O'Kelly ) ...she is an ex international hockey player herself and still plays at senior club level ...she works with the Leinster rugby team also so she is totally in tune with athletes needs ...very much in the Hartman mould also ..she works out of Knocklyon area a couple of days during the week and rest of time in the Wicklow area ...mail me at peter.vincent@aviva.ie if you want contact details

Good to hear you're making progress. Might go see him myself, if this evening's discomfort doesn't clear with some rest.

We were talking about the 400m. How the pain from 250m mark to the finish is the worst. In retrospect, he set the conversation up. Started at the knee, he dug his hands into my leg and s-l-o-w-l-y moved them up to my hip. The frictional forces alone would have been enough to skin a small mammal, and my quad muscle was almost parted to the bone, which was surely in danger of shattering. "Oh yeah, coming off the final bend is where your race begins..." Longest 150m of my life:)

    ++1 for Ciaran.

I've been to him a good few times over the past 2/3 years with everything from minor niggles to a recent pretty bad groin niggle that he sorted pretty much instantly.

    the man is a genius!

I have been with Ciaran myself over the last 3 years, great value and a nicer man you could not wish to meet. Top Class every time.

Another +1 for Ciaran, even though it hurt like hell getting it done.

    Yet another +1 for Ciaran.
I am lucky in that I have never went to another physio - when I first had an injury I went to him from a reccomendation I Got here on Boards.
I have been on about 5 seperate occasions with mystery injuries and every time he had me diagnosed within 10 minutes and went ot work on the problem. As a result i have never had to miss more than a few days training through injury. I recommend anyone who has even a slight doubt about their physio and his/her diagnosis to give Ciaran a go.
