Has anybody here been through the interview for Clinical Psych in Trinity? I have been invited for first round interview and am looking for any insight/ advice anyone might have. All the information they give is that there is a group discussion and three written assignments... I'm feeling appropriately anxious at present..any info gratefully received! :)

Not been to interview at Trinity but remember the focus will be on your clinical experience - how you can relate this to psychological theory etc, research is a key dimension of a clin psychs work, so you need to demonstrate keeping this up to date etc. Basically spend some time reflecting on all your work experience to date and be prepared to discuss this in a more contextualised way.

By visiting the forum at www.psyclick.or.uk and you may find people with experience of TCD, but you'll see oodles of comment about other universities and there is a degree of similarity in terms of core qualities they are looking for.

    Good luck

i'm going to round 1 of the TCD interviews too.

I'd a chat with a current trainee in UCD, who went to it a few years ago (but didn't get through). The format has changed slightly since he did it- but here's what he told me about the content:

    -an essay
-write an abstract for a journal article
-the group discussion is more about interaction than content, in his year they were given a newspaper clipping about a disorder and asked to discuss it.

he also said that the day itself is very formal (tone/ dress code). I hope that helps. Have you picked up any other info since your post?

I have a degree from a reputable Irish college, but how important is a first for getting into Clinical? I have a few years of relevant work experience along with some voluntary work and some great references from both...but I don't have a first, I have an upper 2:1..

A first will typically give you a few extra points in the scoring system but it is obviously not essential. You will be scored on other aspects of your career to date including experience and research. You also obviously score according to how well you do at interview. There are plenty of ways to make up the points and the performance on the interview day is really the essential thing. Your degree, experience etc are usually the things that get you an interview (a 2:1 is fine here), after that it is up to you.
