Hi folks. Having just purchased new Easton EA90 SLX’s I read from their instructions that you are not supposed to fit a cassette made from individual sprokets to the alloy hub as it will damage it:eek: I have fitted a Shimano Ultegra 11/23 cassette and only the last three sprokets are on a common caddy, the rest being individual etc. I know I don’t put out the same wattage as el_tonto and some of his “crew” oops sorry Tiny:D but should there be a problem. I know the greatest torque will occur in the lower gears which are linked but don’t want to end up using a hammer and chisel to remove the cassette in a few months! Any comments appreciated.

That sounds very odd, since most cassettes have individual sprockets and the high end ones have a majority individual. In fact, the only cassette without any individual sprockets is Sram Red. I've a set of Eastons too and I don't recall reading anything like that, but I'll check when I get home.

I just had a look at the instruction sheet on the Easton site and it says that there too. Yet they are moutain bike wheels and cassettes in the illustrations.

Exactly my initial reaction. I thought maybe they had changed the cassettes recently to suit alloy hubs. Can't keep up with this modern technology! I will carry on regardless. Thanks
@ Tiny Did you get that SRAM groupset on your recent visit to the Big Apple

As far as I know, pretty much all modern wheels have alloy hubs too. I know my Campagnolo wheels do.

Might be worth while dropping them an email to clarify. But I'll be my bottom dollar that everyone on Easton road wheels is using individual sprockets.

Will keep you informed niceonetom. Bought them when sterling was at its lowest. Have them hanging in the attic at the moment as the roads down here in the sticks are permanently covered in s.... Keeping them clean for brighter days :)

Funds wouldn't allow it I'm afraid... I only came back with a couple cycle caps and a quill stem

These cycle caps are making a big comeback. With the onset of Helmets the poor old cap died a death. Should start a thread on this one Tiny. If the cap fits ........

I think the unplanned fixie project derailed your road bike plans.:) Keep saving.

Pretty much! I have quite the collection now (or would have if I didn't keep giving ones away!). I don't like to leave the house without head cover, and it's usually a cycling cap :)

Reply from Easton ....."That cassette is just fine, the warning is supposed to guide people away from using cassettes which are all separate cogs. The Ultegra has alloy carriers for the largest 5 or 6 cogs and will work great.
    Best regards,
    Scott Junker"

So it seems all is well. Thanks for help.
