Please help, in a hopeless situation

Sorry if this isn't the right place, I'm new and not sure where to post.:o

I'm in a hopeless situation, I feel I've nowhere to turn to,

I've been out of work just about a year, I had an accident at work. I've been claiming illness benefit. My injury hasn't cleared up and shows no signs of. I was paid for the first six months by my job but no longer. I'm in a lot of debt and am struggling to pay any of it.

I'm now in a situation that I can't even afford to pay rent. I've been staying with my brother, sister and friends. I now feel I've outstayed my welcome with all of these. I have absolutely no money to pay for a deposit to rent a house let alone pay the rent. So in effect I'm homeless!

I feel so worthless and low, before this I've never claimed any money off of the state. i've worked since I was fifteen.

I suppose my questions are what options have I? Am I entitled to anything? Do I have to hand in my notice to work to get off of their books to qualify for help?

Please help as I've never ever felt so low.

    Thanks for reading.

I suppose the 1st thing you should do is go in and talk to your local Community Welfare Officer, you can ring your local health office to find out details: http://findaddress.citizensinformation.ie/service_finder/ to sort emergency accomodation.

Then about the debt, well as soon as you have somewhere to live sorted make an appointment with mabs - http://www.mabs.ie/ who will help you.

    Hope things work out.

The CWO office can sort out a deposit for you for a house/apartment, when you are homeless. As the above poster said MABS can help you with your monetary situation and speak to the lenders on your behalf and organise repayment options you can afford to pay.

Your situation is not hopeless. Use all the help that is there, it is there for these times.

Have chat with your brother and sister. whatever you lose you need people around you. tell them how you feel, ask them is there any way you can contribute (chores, giving them space etc) or is there anything you need to stop doing.
    Get on to the CWO.

    good luck

Thanks for the reply, its not that we will fall out or anything but I can't live off of them forever. They are struggling themselves as it is.

Your local SWO may be able to temporarily help out with supplementary welfare allowance. Bit difficult if you are working, but if your Doctor is signing sick certs you should be able to get sickness benefit which is the same as the dole. I'm surprised you are not already getting that.

Disability is considered long term, would involve a lengthy medical check, but that may be more difficult to get in the current climate. Would definitely look into sickness though, you should be claiming that anyway.

If you do get sickness, you would then be entitled to claim rent subsidy and get your rent paid, though in a lot of the country the payable rents are well below what would be considered a market rent.
