Downloaders face disconnection following Eircom settlement

is this even possible? the IP addresses that these music companies pick up off limewire wouldn't even pinpoint to a certain person. just a network of people in an area.

a proxy nullifies their whole plan, but tbh I don't think average joe is going to need one.

all sounds like scare tactics to me..

This is eircom, the crowd that couldn't find my house for about 2 months to install a second line. In Dublin city centre. When we've been with them about 30 years.

I really, really wouldn't worry. They're not going to jeapordise their exorbriant BB costs by attacking their customer base; and what, after 3 strikes they'll disconnect you? Oh noes! Hit them up again on one of their 'join now for X free' packages under your Irish name and addresses - you can be damn sure they'll play along.

(P.S. An educated guess would suggest that 40 odd % of the major seeders in this country are eircom tech support and the like, nevermind the cheeky buggers running headless servers piggybacked on HEAnet. In the worst case scenario - billion to one shot - everyone will just start using newsgroups or darknets)

(P.P.S Please support musicians and BUY music if they deserve it/are still alive)

To be quite honest a lot of random threats will be sent to legit people who are just downloading heaps of legal stuff.

Musicians make most of their money from performances and get pittance from the labels that put out the albums. Until they get famous anyway.

And want do the record labels do? They take the cash from a decent musicians album and push it back into promoting sh1t like pussycat dolls and girls aloud.

The big corporate labels are running scared now that people can release their music on the web for free and get noticed. This is a last ditch attempt to stop us taping of the radio. Eircom are the laughing stock of the world for accepting this crap.

I work for Eircom myself and be honest I havent heard boo about it and probably wont, everyone here downloads illegal from the average joes to the higher ups,I doubt anything will happen

I Got a 10meg download from NTL that is sweet as fook.
Eircom are part of the national framework and are forced under national law to offer 3mb as the entry level service, and yet they advertise that you can now get a 3mb line at the same cost as a 1mb line.
Advertising standards should be onto them, they can't legally provide a 1mb line.

seriously though they are possibly the worst and most expensive provider of Broadband and Telephone services in Europe, Irish Broadband and BT Ireland are equally as bad (especially their billing/customer service)

do they still use that dreadful song as their theme tune, jaysus that used to drive me insane i hate that tune...:D

No they use a tune thats like a sheep getting raped by a gorilla, very annoying, they do charge the little but extra, but you do get a good service, sure all the lines accross the country are Eircom owned why bother going somewhere else were you are getting a recyled service that comes from Eircom, they pay my bills is all I'll say

Pay for Internet you must be joking mate i wouldn't pay for Internet when it can be got for free;) especially the rip off prices they charge here:eek:

Lines being owned by them is irrelavant due to open access rules.

In the UK, third party ISP renting BT lines can and do get broadband faults repaired far faster than BT Yahoo or whatever the hell the BT consumer ISP is called these days (I got out of there in January 07 and haven't looked back since...)

Trust me mate I know what I talking about,Eircom are the best company to be with in terms of broadband, they are only company that repair the lines as they own and maintain them, all the other service providers are ****e just Eircom with different name, whenever anything goes wrong your f*cked

    im with magnet, formerly netsource

im on an 8meg business line with almost no contention, no download cap, a static IP address, and 99.9% up time (been down twice for me in all the years ive had it, starting from a 1 meg line)

    i pay €55 per month

    find me that with eircom

Its a ridicoulous agreement. Eircom don't have the tech to support it. Plus when they ship out routers with WEP keys as default then its going to be the poor old dear / 3.1 kid family that is being hacked by the teenager next door that gets done for it.

Its been here for years and this is hardly going to stop it. I gave up illegal downloading years ago. The quality was rubbish and you just feel bad about it.

why are people taking the whole thing so seriously?

its a blatantly half arsed, never gonna be enforced angle from eircom

they have to warn you THREE times before they cancel your broadband

and thats only if youre an eircom customer

the whole thing is chuckle worthy, the reaction is even funnier tho

You happen to work for eircom by any chance?

The line support is - by law - no worse with any other ISP. It is, basically, impossible to have customer support as bad as eircom's, it actually requires a vacuum to throw your support in to to get it that bad.
