    just wondering peoples opinions about social partnership between the unions and government?

    It's nice when everyone agrees on a compromise but sometimes unilateral action is needed if one side is being unrealistic in their demands so they shouldn't be held to as something that has to be done.

    Personally I think the unions have gotten far too nice a deal through the system over the past decade but many I'm sure would disagree with me.

    What good would scrapping it do ? It's probably the case that it's needed now more than ever.

    The social partnership was originally formed at the height of our troubles in the 80's and was instrumental in helping us turning them around.

    As originally conceived, its wage and strike constraints in the 90's were probably second only to EU membership, in creating the Celtic Tiger.

    To say its three strands are not reacting to current events with a true leadership perspective is probably an understatement, but then who is ? Barack Obama maybe ?
