which is more important?i.e a talented player who never goes to training starting a ranked match (final/semi) or an average player who has been to every training

A player who never trains wouldn't get a match.

Mostly the skilful players will always come out on top and there's only so far you'll get with raw dedication but a fella who has talent to burn but doesn't train would have no respect in the dressing room and would generally be regarded as a pain in the ass

you obviously don't play for my club

1 guy was out with a "back injury"(although still playing on the junior team without training) from minor since the first training of last year and when we got to the semi-final he got on and i got subbed

even better he was s***(lack of training) and still wasn't subbed off

Don't worry, dedication will bring skill in time.

I think it depends where you play.

A corner forward with plenty of skill but not so much dedication will get by. But a corner back won't. He has to keep an eye on his man and make sure everythings covered. You could be the most skillful fcuker every seen with ball in hand but if you don't have the courage and dedication you'll get caught out in defence

In a perfect world this is true, and when the day comes that i try my hand at managing this will be my rule

However like ginga ninja said i have seen first hand lads who didnt bother training gettin loads of game, one guy arrived on the scene about 5 MINUTES before a match i didnt even know his name to call for the bloody ball*! Others even having been out the night before and gettin sick from too much drink (and the match at 11 the next mornin )

*It turns out he had played with the team in the past but still hadnt been to training from oct to feb (match was in feb)
