Editing text in photoshop

    I want to be able to see the changes I make to text in photoshop in real time, ie. color and font changes - I want to be able to alter these settings without having the text itself highlighted as when it's highlighted you cant see it properly in that the color is inverted and the bg color in the highlighted area is black.

    So, is there a way to select the text field itself so that you can change the text without having to highlight it?
