    Green Field

    Yesterday, I stood in wonder,
My eyes drawn to the sight,
At the green fields in front of me,
In which I used to fly a kite.

    The small blades of grass
    Flickered and flowed,
    Dancing to the wind that
    Howled and blowed.

    The tree stump stood there,
    Wise and old,
    Wonderful in the sunlight,
    Yet gruesome in the cold.

    The rabbit’s leap,
    The foxes scurry.
    The deer canter,
    And the badgers hurry.

    I watch in awe,
    As the sunlight shined,
    As the rain lashed,
    And as the wind chimed.

    No words can explain properly,
And often it is not seen,
The beauty of that magnificent field,
And the tree stump so powerful and lean.

    The Horse

A horse is an animal humble and loyal,
It’s often associated with the rich and royal.
We know, however, that is not true,
A beautiful creature, unsuited for few.
Its magnificent mane whips in the gale,
And flick and twist goes the tail.
A saddle now is upon its back,
As the rider leaves for a quiet hack!
Its shiny black coat stands out in the snow,
As shiny as the sun, but as black as coal.
With an elegant kick, it goes into a trot,
A canter, a gallop and then a stop.
At the end of the day when the hay rack is full,
The stable door closes with a heaving pull.

    Winter

    The white blanket spread
Creeping over the trees and hedges.
It then flowed through the fields
    And colour disappeared.

A bitter wind whipped the air
    And shivered through frosted grass
It kept pace though all obstacles
    Its strength persevered.

    The lake froze solid
    Hard as rock
    A glossy, smooth surface
That glimmered in the morning sun.

I knew what time of year it was.
    I knew what was happening.
This is when the year ended.
    But winter had begun.
