Why does UCC have to have so many cnuts that turn on the fire-alarms so many times throught the week. The firealams went off twice in the last hour in the boole.Just as we were logging back into the computers wham-off it went again.

My dad works in UCC and says somedays the firebrigade are called up to three times a day in some cases.Thing is for every callout of the firebrigade UCC gtes charged something around 800 euro due to the fact that three or four trucks come out each time.I dont know if there is anything they can do to sort this out by god is it getting old.

    End or rant/

I think those log on times are worse than the fire alarms!

So it was definately because of some toerag "having a laugh" and tripping the alarm? I was wondering if it was a malfunction of some kind, especially since there were two alarms inside an hour...

I despair at the thought that people our age would still have the immaturity to set off an alarm for the laugh of it. Clearly the education system doesn't work if those twunts manage to make it to university. I will give benefit of the doubt and assume that its fauly wiring. That being said, i have never heard an alarm go off in the Elec Eng building that wasn't a scheduled fire drill.

    Totally agree there.

We get a fair few in the Kane due to bunsen burners and so on.
Then there's the occasional burnt toast or smoker.
It gets fairly annoying when you work there full-time.

Im sure that some of them are due to faulty wiring but a good majority are from little twirps that are way too immature to be in college, remember the day of the student protest? ;p
Every alram around the place was hoppin :p.

That day was just crap. Going through a brilliant History lecture, totally engrossed in it and the bleedin' alarm goes off. :(

I remember when I was in first year, someone had set off the alarm in the part of the castlewhite apartments where I was living in.

Spoke to the security staff on the ground floor, explained that there were maintanence staff working on Q+4 (ever been up there? great view) who smashed a ladder into an alarm point. When they turned the alarm back on an hour later the alarm point was malfunctioning so the alarm sounded again.

For once not a stupid prank

No need to worry about the bill as UCC hasn't ever been charged. Even for the 7 times in one night to Castlewhite last year. And in case your wondering it wouldn't be as cheap as 800e

Ever notice the glass bit on the roof of the Boole? You can get up there using the staff lift, you need a code though.

Should do it the good old fashioned way...

    You can leave when

    a. you smell smoke
    b. you see flames
    c. your getting a bit hot under the collar

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

The only good old fashioned option is to leg it when the flames are really close to ya.

Survival of the fittest in that case!

SEVEN times?!?!? I guess the current batch of tenants are a bit more well-behaved, since I only remember the alarm being set off once this year so far...
