How do I convert .TS to Xvid

I bought the EzTv USB decoder for €12 inc postage. I installed Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 for the codec and GB-PVR for recording and playback and am happy with the result.
GB-PVR saves the recordings as a .TS file (Transport Stream). Does anybody know of software that can convert a .TS to say Xvid or mpeg so that I can burn it to a DVD for playing on a DVD player.

For.ts or .trp (technomate) use Mpeg Stream Clip 1.2. It lets you save as anything really..... and its free

You also need to have installed Alternative Quicktime 1.81

Where do you get those EZTV USB decoders?

Do they work with Irish DTT?

    €12 sounds appealing!:)

I got it from here http://cgi.ebay.ie/DVB-T-Freeview-Di...1%7C240%3A1308

Yes, it works with Irish DTT, but you have to install something along the lines of the software that I mentioned in the first post.

Hi STB, I installed Stream Clip 1.2 , the quicktime alternative and the 3ivx codec but am not having much luck getting it working. It seems to open just about anything except the TS files. It just says opening but it never succeeds. Have you tried it with TS files?

    Well it works for me!

I have .trp files which I simply renamed to .TS. It opens em and I can same as AVI MPEG2 4 etc.

Are you sure you everything installed. Re install

Failing that try Super (eright software), also free. But only if you are not running Vista.

    hi STB,

Just wondering if you have ever had issues playing back HD or DTT recordings?

I have TRP files; standard digital, HD and DTT. The standard digital plays fine but both DTT and HD don't play at all.

    Regards

The reason why is that you do not have an MPEG4 codec installed on your computer, so it cannot understand the H264 content within the TRP file.

As you have recorded from a HD Channel (presume BBC HD) it is in MPEG4 H264 HD. For DTT it is in MPEG H264 SD. You need to install get yourself Core AVC (its not free) in order to play MPEG4 HD files. I have this so have seen no problems. FFMPEG (freely packaged) will not work!

These MPEG4 files take up a lot of processor power and the following link explains it better than I could (it ven has screenshots of CPU performance when CoreAVC is used versus FFMPEG). You need a fast PC also.

Try this first however as its free as a converter. If it doesnt work you will need CoreAVC.

Total Video Converter (Link is in the Mvision HD200 Thread)
