Not that i was ever even close to being a top athlete but upto the begining of December i was doing approx 25-30k running a week and 25k cycling sat and sun.

Was sick on and off in december and never got out diet went to the dogs and started smoking the occasional box of fags ( i know i know shame on me:( ) Have not smked since xmas eve though.

My 1 year old son has not been sleeping well and has had me up most nights of Jan so far and my diet is still brutal.

The worst part is i just cant find the motivation to get off my sorry ass and do something......even walking at lunch time!!!!!

    I really really need help!!!!!!!!!!!

Enter a race in the Spring and tell people, so you can't back out.

    I second that.
Pick a 5k or 10k in a few months and tell people you are doing it.
Even better is something that people recognise as a major achievevement e.g. marathon/triathlon (any lenght), and you wil be asked regularly hoow is training going, which should give you encouragment to get out there.

Alternatively, do a youtube search for Dick and Rick Hoyt for some serious motivation. The man is a legend and should inspire anyone to go and do some exercise

Dont think about it, just go do it. It doesnt make a difference what distance the first run is cos u just need to break the cycle so go do it and let us know how it goes!

Post it rainbow kirby it worked when you post it to me.

Hey Rasco1975 I did a 2 mile run yesterday after doing nothing for over a year.
Legs sore today but feeling good for getting back to it.
I feel stupid for leaving it so long.
It was the Bishop Brennan picture that did it for me.
    Good luck.

Why don't you try to find a training partner for some of your sessions. It makes it a bit more social and less of a chore. I think there are days when I'd go crackers if I had to do all my miles on my own! Also if you arrange to train with someone you have to be there and the work will get done.

if your really lazy, just turn up for a race and watch. That will get you going. I hate being at a race and not running. I bet ya it will make you run during the week.
if you in dublin turn up and help at the bhaa race this week end

Not quite. It's always all about the next session. What's done is done, no matter how great or pathetic it might be. The stupid grin feeling is great so enjoy it but remember it needs refreshing.

    Well done anyway.

    Very well put jlang.

And to the OP, if you came here looking for advice on motivating yourself to run, yet it takes you nearly two weeks between posting and actually getting out the door, I doubt you'll keep it up for long.

By all means prove me wrong, and good luck.
