[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]The wildly popular John Duddy of Ireland will take on Matt Vanda and undefeated Anthony Peterson faces Edna Cherry on Top Rank’s Cotto–Pavlik PPV event on Saturday, Feb. 21. Bob Arum made the announcement today. Duddy vs. Vanda and Peterson vs. Cherry will be at Madison Square Garden where Cotto will fight for the world welterweight championship against Michael Jennings. On the same PPV, Kelly Pavlik will defend his world middleweight crown against challenger Marco Antonio Rubio at the Chevrolet Centre in Youngstown, Ohio. “I am excited, as is everyone at Top Rank, about this championship night of boxing in two locations — Madison Square Garden in New York City and at Kelly’s hometown in Youngstown,” said Arum.
Duddy is a huge attraction in New York City. He will be taking on Vanda who is coming off two 12-round battles against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Peterson, trained by Barry Hunter, is an undefeated world-ranked lightweight who will go into his biggest fight against Cherry.
Arum also announced that the fight card at Madison Square Garden will also include:
Russian Olympian Matt Korobov, a middleweight who strikes with extreme power, will be in a four-round bout. Korobov is 3-0, 3 KOs. He is managed by Cameron Dunkin and trained by Dan Birmingham. Arum said Korobov “is one of our biggest signings in years.” Korobov last weekend fought at the sold-out STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. Korobov’s bout at MSG will be video-taped for the PPV show.
Maureen ‘Moe’ Shea, born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., is a 13-0 lightweight. She was raised by her Irish father and her mother of Mexican heritage. Maureen spent much of her youth growing up in the Bronx and in the Guadalajara area in Mexico. She is fluent in Spanish. Maureen was Hilary Swank’s main sparring partner when she prepared for the award-winning Million Dollar Baby movie. Away from the ring Maureen is a senior at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. pursuing a BA in English and with a minor in speech.

Thats a nice little card now. I hope it broadcasts over here, im sure someone will pick it up.
    You have....
Kelly Pavlik vs Marco Antonio Rubio
    Cotto vs.Jennings
    Duddy vs. Vanda
    Peterson vs. Cherry
and a chance to see how Korobov is coming along as a pro.

Also, you never know, Having them on the same broadcast could be a way to build towards Pavlik vs. Duddy

The Pavlik and Cotto cards are different but on the same night. Duddy is on the Cotto card.

yeah but its all one tv broadcast

Seen that in an article alright and yeah it would seem that Pavlik-Duddy would be on the cards if both men win.
Vandas last decent win was against Campas at light middle in 2005. Although some say he was robbed against chavez jr last year. Duddys last decent win was Dec 07 against Eastman.

Setanta should be showing it then. Would make for one good night of pugilism!!!

The only thing about setanta is that they dont bother with a lot of the undercard fights.
That one last weekend began coverage @3am , leaving out some decents fights.
its not like there was anything significant on before 3am , but I'd say it more relates to the cost of acquiring the full card. Setanta will be running on a budget of x-amount for the year i'd imagine.

But I really do hope we get the 4 fights !!

They showed James Moores last fight. Plus Duddy is a big draw and hasnt been seen on tv here for a year so it would make sense to get it.

It'd make sense , but Duddy's been on the undercard of previous setanta shows , and they didnt bother to air him.

I dont think they realise his attraction. Setanta aim largely at the Brittish audience....

Anyway , Vanda is very good , he punched Chavez jnr into next week... I seen it with my naked eyes

Emailed buncey at Setanta yesterday and said he will say on the Boxing hour this thursday whether or not they will show Duddys fight.
Also in his reply said he will mention the fact that Boxrec list Duddy as British and hopes to hear something back from them about it

Excellent stuff, Buncey really is a credit to his profession, he makes a great link between the fight game and its fans.

just read on eastside brtish boxing forum that setanta have confirmed the duddy fight will be shown before the pavlik fight . supposdley bunce e-mail one of the posters and confirmed it !

    It's hard to know.......
setanta revealed that cotto-jennings was not going to be aired,....apparently Frank Warren holding them to an extorionist ransom fee if they wanted the tv rights.

Setanta called his bluff announcing it was off the coverage schedule,

Then the claim by Buncey to show Duddy could have just been ammunition in the poker game with Warren.

Now Cotto-Jennings is back on air ,... so does that mean Duddy-Vanda is off ?

BTW... Matt Vanda is 5/1 to beat Duddy !
They're just going to go toe to toe in the middle of the ring and I would imagine it is a much more 50/50 fight tbh.

I seen Vanda beat Chavez jnr, and the dude can bang hard. It remains to be seen.

Have to say, I was very impressed. He's stepped it up another gear and controlled the fight almost throughout, had a bit of a wobble in the 10th, but aside from that he dominated and decided the tempo. Wasn't sure he had that kind of discipline in him until now.

I caught it from the 7th on,setanta **** said it started at 3 on the guide.they really are such an amatuer station.

    Well done john.
