I have a 07 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI that need's the timing belt done and a full service.

So I sent an email to a garage in Dublin to get an idea of the price and they gave me a quote of:

"1200.00 Euro + Vat @ 13.5% Approx—Subject to any other items that may arise during service.
    Regards".

Does anyone think this is a little bit over the top??

Also the engine is the same as an Audi/VW/Seat so if anyone has had this done at a reasonable price, let me know?

    Cheers

I got a quote for my octavia timing belt and pump for €300 fitted. Mechanic said to give him notice and he'd get it up the north. service generally costs 150 quid without stupid little extras like windscreen fluid etc.

Main dealer quoted me for work a few months ago for €1250, non-main dealer did it all for€560

500 to 600 is a reasonable price. Dont use that garage who quoted 1200 & Vat. That would be 1500 when vat and a few other 'items' were added in.

What mileage have you on it ? Isn't it a little early for a 07 to need a new belt unless your'e doing savage mileage ? I had a 02 Octavia whose belt began to show crack lines just outside warranty but because I had low mileage skoda offered me a goodwill gesture and I only had to pay for parts. Otherwise I would have landed out just over 500 euro for parts and labour.
Anyway, try Newport Motors in Tipperary. A 2 year service there including new wipers front and back, brake fluid change, tracking, computer diagnostic etc.. comes to approx 290-300 euro. If you forgo the extras, then your'e looking at 190-200 euro.

You should e-mail a main dealer just across the border. It would be interesting to see what they come back with in comparison

I was thinking around €700 for everything which I would be happy with. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't way off the mark after I got that quote!!

Found an old email from a main dealer in Limerick and i think the pricing is standardised, so these are what the maain dealer will charge

Following is the quote for the serviceto your Skoda Octavia you requested:

    Service Parts (pollen,fuel,air & oil filter,oil) €172.57
    Labour €170.00
    T/Belt Kit €221.94
    Coolant Pump €42.65
    Coolant €7.55
    Labour €195.00
    Total including vat @ 13.5% €919.02

Two years ago i was getting the timing belt done on my Passat TDI and was quoted anything from 1100-1300 at garages etc.
I rang a guy who used to work on my Dads cars years ago and he done the timing belt and service all in for 600 euro ,thats including parts and labour.

My advice is stay well away from garages and dealers for timing belt, there are loads of independent mechanics out there that will do it a lot cheaper.

The guy i got to do it for me is in Kildare Town if your interested name is [Shay Vaughan].
Also last year i got work done on the wifes car and went to [Andrew Donegan] in Rathangan Co Kildare ,here again he was a lot cheaper than garages.
Let me know if you want numbers for these guys, both are recomended and im guessing still a lot cheaper than garages etc.

Quick question, is this the first time the timing belt has been changed?
Reason i ask is its normally at 60,000 miles

We just had the timing belt, pump and full service done on our 1.4 petrol Octavia by a mechanic in Arklow for €500. Stay away from the main dealers and find a reputable mechanic to do the job instead.

Cheers for all the prices, I think you are all right about staying away from the Main dealers.

Is there any chance you could PM me the numbers for the garages in Kildare and Arklow lads?

    Cheers

I have emailed a few garages in the North so will let you know what they come back with

Sounds like that price is completely OTT.

Timing belt kit & water pump, around 400 Euro

    Full service: around 200 Euro

16 bent valves 'cos someone didn't bother getting the belt changed, priceless!...................

Your timing belt and waterpump is due for a change at 120000kms.

I got my Octavia TDI serviced and timing belt kit and waterpump changed in a Skoda service dealer department in Louth for €720.00. No problems with the garage and very happy with the service.:)

Just got a reply from a main Skoda Dealer up North:

"Please be advised the price of a full service and timing belt to be replaced as requested is £350.00 plus vat."

So that would be an approx saving of €950!!

I feel like forwarding on the email to the Dublin Garage!!

    £350+vat
    That is really good.
I think I could be taking aa trip up the north soon.
Timing belt and service badly needed.

Wow, as a matter of interest, what mileage is your car. I've a 1.9 Tdi Passat (latest model) and the service book recommends the timing belt to be changed at 120,000 KM. I'm current at 101,000 KM.

EDIT: Just saw VRS' post and relieved that it's not due until 120K Kms. Hope the sterling doesn't strenghten in the coming months!

And remember, you're getting a stamp from a main dealer on your service history!

    Mother of God.....

Our dealers may as well close their doors.

    950 difference!

    Haha

I paid 220 euros for t-belt set+water pump (oryginal Skoda Brand), I ordered that in Poland. it is realy cheapper there. In ireland there are a lot of polish people, so maybe you should try speak with. I am polish as well, and I ordered a lot of car parts.
Fast Car service in Finglas has a realy good prizes for services.

I paid the same in a Cork Main VW dealer last year. One thing though, with a main dealer you have some come back if they cock it up. They only need to be out by a fraction with a timing belt for it to go wrong.

This looks right to me, first of all its a main dealer so all parts are genuine second it says timing belt KIT this means it is the belt AND the tensioner and the idler and belt and the new replacement bolts. always get a written quote for repairs broken down into the parts list. ie if a garage quotes 350 for timing belt what are you really getting? just a new belt? then it's money wasted!!! The main thing is to change ALL the parts affected by the belt execpt the camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket. So minimum replacment parts are:
    1 timing belt.
    2 timing belt tensioner.
    3 timing belt idler pulley.
4 water pump(driven by the timing belt).
4 new cam bolts/idler bolts /tensioner bolts(come with the genuine kit and some quality aftermarket kits).
5 Replace coolant(has to be drained to fit new water pump).
These parts will cost in excess of 300 euro+vat/so be carful of people willing to do this job for 350/400 euros. why? because all they are changing is the belt!!(which can be bought on its own for about 40 euro!!!!)
