    Hi,

The shifters i had on my bike broke (something feel onto them from the shed!!) and i got these

Problem is there not compatabile with the SRAM rear deraileur I have

Is there any way of "making" them compatable or do i need a new deraileur, if so any suggestions?

    Thanks

i don't understand - the shifters are for 7 speed SRAM and your derailleur is a 7 speed SRAM so there should be no reason why they don't work?

    Know you see my problem!!

Excuse the sarcasm i just cant figure out why the parts don't work together. The shifter just doesn't seem to pull the deraileur enough.

Sorry i know i'm probably coming across as a bit of a simpleton but if there's any other information i can give that might allow people to help let me know

    Thanks

I think I see the problem. The rear derailleur needs a 1:1 shifter (this is SRAM specific).

I can't find a 7 speed 1:1 shifter though, you could always change the derailleur.

Kinda what i though myself but at least i've some comfirmation, thanks.

Any suggests as to what deraileur might work?

Will any shimano do or do i need some ones that "match" the shifters?

Just so you know, 7 and 8 speed cog spacings are almost identical so you could use an 8 speed 1:1 shifter with a 7 speed cassette. You would need to set up the derailleur so that it won't allow you shift into that 8th gear using the limit screws. Any SRAM shifters with a numeral in them (i.e. SX4, X7) are 1:1, the SRAM Attack and Rockets are 2:1 (shimano compatible).

... however, if you can't return the shifters you've already bought it is probably cheaper now to get a derailleur. I have one of these lying around:

Bought for a friend who's bike was so cheap it didn't even have a derailleur hanger to fit the part onto! I'd be open to selling for what it cost me (13 euros) if you are interested.

    Rob
