Stickies...

    Hiya,

I want to tidy up the stickies - since teh merge I think there are too many and there is some crossover. But I have no idea where to start...

    I'm thinking:

    - Unsticky the 1000 mile thread; it's busy enough to always be close to the top anyway

    - Merge teh useful links and Athletics clubs stickies under a "Links & Clubs" thread

    - Merge Marathon reviews, Tri 2009 Race registration and Race fixture lists under "Event (Race and Tri) reviews and announcements"

That leaves us with Charter / MCD / Links / Events as the 4 stickies. I think a "What is BAC?" stickie would be useful as well, leaving us with 5 rather than 8.

Any thoughts? If I don't hear anything I'll batter on and make teh changes so speak now or forever hold your peace!

I nearly have all the clubs moved as hyperlinks and separated by county down in the useful links section and hope to finish today. Then this can easily merged into one.

I wouldn't unsticky the 1,000 mile challenge thread, as it is one of the most popular and heavily traffic'ed threads (12K+ views so far this month!) and it should have prominence at/near the top of the forum. You could always move it to the training logs sub-forum though.

    Thats a good idea.

It was because it was such a huge and popular thread I was going to un-sticky - because it is so busy it'll never dip below the top few threads so it doesn't need to be stickied.

I figured that stickies should be used for important but un-replied (or infrequently replied to) threads. So a review thread is popular but doesn't have many new posts. Because of that it would fall off teh front page pretty quickly, so needs to be stickied to keep it visible. 1000 mile on teh other hand gets a couple of posts an hour!

Bit torn on moving it - I see teh logic, it is a training log of sorts but I like the idea of iot being visible so that newbies can join in.

Ahh decisions, decisions. Obama only thinks he has it tough!

Already had a word with Tingle about the Indoors thread being stickied. It was just an idea, as last year we had the outdoors thread stickied as it lasted for the 4/5 months the outdoor T&F season lasted. It was a very popular thread, and the indoors thread, already picking up speed, will be in use more than ever from this weekend onwards when the first of the major grand prix begin, and will continue to be used right up until March. I know forum space is at a premium with the merge, but if there's room...

Although it probably isn't justified by this logic:

I agree with any unstickying/merging that leaves only 3-5 sticky threads, and in particular with the above description of what makes a thread sticky-worthy. It's annoying to have to scroll to see the first non-stickied post (, and I know this is personal to screen resolution, whether you maximize your browser etc.)

When the 1000 mile post doesn't usually appear on the front page will be a good indicator of when it's run its course (excuse the pun).
