Hi I'm wondering if anyone knows where is the closest airport to Slovenia that ryanair fly in to? I was thinking Trieste but then realised they only do flights from the UK to there and that would be a lot more extra hassle/cost. thanks:)

there's a map on the ryanair website, just click under destinations and you can figure it out.

ok, i've had a look for you. it will depend on where you're going in slovenia and whether you're going to be hiring a car or using trains. i've presumed you're using trains and going to ljubliana which would mean surprisingly that salzburg is your best bet, venice is probably nearer but train wise is a lot more complicated. there's a direct train service from salzburg to ljubliana.
    for trains check here

    having checked on www.viamichelin.com
there's not much difference between venice/treviso and salzburg however renting a car in one country and bringing it across the border may be illegal under some rental agreements.

There's direct trains to Ljubljana from Venice as well. Rynair used fly to Maribor but it didn't last long. Easyjet fly from Stansted to Ljubljana if it's of any use...

The only direct train from Venice is an overnight sleeper that would get you to ljubljana at 1.30 in the morning so probably not suitable.

There's daytime trains as well , but they may be summer only.....or not running anymore.

The closest ryan air flight to Lublijiana is Klagenfurt. from STN
You will have to take a short cut through the mountains though in a car, other wise the train trip can be a bit convoluted...
    after that Venice or Salzburg....

The train from Venice goes through Trieste, which is handy if you can get a flight in there. There's no changovers, just straight on through to Slovenia, which isn't so bad considering how comfortable the trains are. Last time we were heading, we booked to Venice, but ended up landing in Trieste.. Gotta love Ryanair! :p

As far as I know, Aer Lingus fly direct into Lj airport, but only on certain days.

hi everyone, thanks for the replies!! Been looking at all the different options and decided to go down to Croatia and fly home from Dubrovnik (It's part of an interrailing trip!) seems like the easiest as I was planning on going down there anyway and flying home through London adds a lot more stress!! thanks!!!
