SEI how slow are they?

I have sent 6 mails to SEI over the past three months looking for information and have had a response to one query! the queries have ranged from requests for definitions of circulation space and listed buildings? when to tick yes on the electric supplementary heating? how should I treat a bungalow with 3 dif levels and approx 6 dif ceiling types ranging from flat ceiling to vaulted cieling? and how accurate I must be with averare cieling height?

I don't think this is good enough, and I don't know we are supposed to make money if we cannot complete Assessment because we are waiting for a response from SEI. I am wondering where our €1,000 reg and €25 per assessment has gone too?

How long is a piece of string???

You're better off heading over to berassoc.ie to post a topic there or here as well as posting your question there...lots of us BER assessors are on both forums to answer all questions that may arise.

berassoc.ie have a private forum for posting complicated questions for other assessors that you have to pay to join (not saying how much) but I joined, as well as others on boards.ie and it as proven invaluable for getting advice...there is also a public forum that you don't have to pay to join, which is equally useful but not as private. The payment also means that you can become a member of ber assessors association and have your voice heard...

Of course, if you post the same topic on the BER section of boards.ie, you will also get a very good reponse to almost anything you might ask...I have anyway!

I have 7 emails queries currently with SEI some of these dating back to November most dating back to January that remain unanswered. I have been told that I should expect answers on all but two of these within the next 4 weeks or so.

The problem is that 3 of the queries will effect the rating of the property these black and white answers have grey back areas:
A draft lobby must open into a circulation space, but I want a precise definition of a circulation space.
when should electric supplementary heating be used? They are happy to give two back and white answers but when asked about three posssible grey areas they take up to 3 months to reply.
When is a BER actually required? they have had that question since november and still can't answer it. Due to the badly written law, they can't actually answer it.
what type of protected properties are exempt, are exterior listed only properties exempt? It will probably take at least 6 months to answer this one.

If one of these properties grades is effected by the answer and a person believes that they have a case against me for effecting the value of their property I would prefer an answer from SEI to back up my case rather than a reply on a board. I think that the reply would be better but i am sure the judge won't.

Very, very valid point indeed...I'd also recommend that you post the exact replies you get from SEI on boards.ie or berassoc.ie so that all of us other assessors won't have to also wait three months for a response as well...we can just use the same letter that other assessors got...which of course should be valid in court (god help us if any assessments result in it) seeing as it came from SEI in the first place anyway...

In fact there is a section on the private forum on berassoc.ie dedicated to such responses...which is very useful indeed for all those "grey areas"...although it is a very small section for reasons known onto both of us!!
