    Hi guys,

I was hoping to get some opinions from some of those in the know. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to running and have only taken part in a 3KM segmented relay marathon so far (which I enjoyed very much).

Someone was telling me about the warriors run in Sligo and I was wondering if I began training for this now (its on 29th August this year) would i have any chance of completing it within the 2.5 Hour limit ?

Assume for the sake of argument that i'm a beginner with no training.

Would I have a chance or would I be deluding myself and should consider something smaller ?

If you are in reasonable physical shape right now then the answer is yes. But don't think that it will come easy. You'd need to adopt a beginner's programme and get a flat race or two under your belt, to ensure you would get the distance. And of course for this particular race you'd want to be doing a bit of hill running, but that could come later on.

It certainly looks a fun event - here's the link to the website

25th Anniversary this year too as far as I know, so the rumours are that something special is planned.

They have training programmes on the site too and I also reckon the change for Sat. to Sun. will bring more numbers.

Climbed it many times but yet to run it, I think this is the year though.

Thanks guys, I hadnt realised it was the 25th Anniversary this year so I bet there's going to be some nasty surprise to go with the normal torture of the event :D

The plan was to just run and increase my distance for the first month or two then go into some hills training and other stuff as they suggest on their site, would that be the best way ?

There's a club near where I live that organise open events regularly enough so ill try to get a few of those in before I sign the forms - they're a bit out of my league at the moment though, this months event is a half marathon.

Ill be training through the Bahrain summer too so hopefully the high temps here wont bee too much of a hindering factor.

I think I may just give it a shot ...

I have not run the Warrior's either, but from what I have heard from others it is best is to treat it like a half-marathon with hills. It's only about 10 miles but if you gear up to do 13 with extra time spent on hills its very do-able in 2 hours+.

Once you can run 3 miles, 3-4 times a week, I would suggest using a program like the Hal Higdon 12-week half marathon for novices and change one of the medium runs for a hill session.

PS Their website says its now back to Saturday 29 August.
