    Hey ya,
Has anyone here had similar problems?
I have a breast lump. I am 25. I am in the medical field. I have had it checked ultrasound and biopsy(fine and core). Because I am young, ultrasound could not tell a great deal. Biopsy showed fatty tissue, I was not really happy with result. Like it did not confirm either that it was a fibrideoma or a cyst which i was hoping for. Have had second opinions. Have had it for 5 years., Very small. No bother except I waste alot of time thinking about it and have worries about it. I have met too many young people in there 20's with breast cancer to feel ok with this. Thing is, consultants (even though i am in medical field) Can be quite firm about telling you NOT to have it removed. Basically they feel its benign and there is no harm in it , but i should always keep an eye on it and come back if it gets bigger (IS that not too late?!?). They kind of act like i am wasting there time , one of them even said "Why dont people believe me when I tell them it's benign by palpable examination?!" , I felt like saying "Buddy , if there was a lump on your testicle , you would more than likely want it removed?" so that guy sent me for no tests.I asked him for Ultrasound, his reply was "Do you really want an ultrasound?" I was 18/19 at time , so i toddled off thinking "ok ill go with him ( and his palpable examination!!) went for a second opinion and thats how i got tests done. This consultant was a woman, but advised me that "I didnt really want SURGERY, did I ? they make it so hard. like who is going to go jumping around the place cause they are dying to have surgery? Its so annoying also cause im in the medical field.
So now i am thinking of just demanding to have surgery. Its just worth it to me. I see alot of girls with cancer and i dont want to be saying i should of listened to my gut and had it removed? well i have to be firm this time and say i want surgery.

Has anyone else had this bother?

It's ok to have a rant here. But the forum isn't really for peoples' own medical issues.

No-one here is any position to give you advice that can supercede that which your own doctors have given you.

I don't mind a few people sharing their experiences, but as soon as anyone starts offering opinion on your case, their post will be deleted and I'll have to lock the thread I'm afraid.

Though the people who post here that are actually qualified to give you advice are sensible enough not to advise you on the basis of a message board posting.

But I do hope you get things sorted out, whatever you choose :D

I am qualified myself , so I DONT want medical advice.I HAVE HAD medical advice, my lump is benign , I know that. I am only wondering have people had problems asking doctors etc for procedures etc . I dont want advice on what I should do. I know what I am going to do. Im going to have it removed. I only wanted to hear peoples stories of when they might of had a similar situations i.e told not to have surgery, but had to well ,not fight for it, but you know what I mean. I dont want or need medical advice. I have seen the world of doctors and I am medically advised up to my ears, I am a qualified Nurse (have worked in a Breast clinic!!) myself!!!!:D

My question was, has anyone else had this bother???

Thank you though for reminding others a message board is not a good place to seek medical attention! I agree.

bethm, maybe there just isn't anyone who's seen this thread who's been in your position? If I were you I'd seek a third opinion. The fact that it's on your mind so much might make the consultant feel it's worth removing.

hi, yes im only 23 and i found a lump the size of a golf ball on my left breast and obviously the first thing u tink is breast cancer so i went to my gp the day after i found it and she referred me to st.james`s hospital in which they said i would be waitin upto 10wks for an appointment. so i decided i was going private and pay for my appointments need i tell u i had an app for the followin week. i had the triple assesment which ended up wit biopsy last week and they said it was goin to be removed in 3weeks because im so young they arent takin any chances. so i think u should go further about it and demand to have it removed. i must say all the consultants i have seen have being brilliant and really reassuring that there is nothing to be stressing over. so inhope u seek further advise and do something about it sooner raqther than later because i knoe from experience that the relief is like a big weight off ur shoulders.so good luck in whatever u decide to do x
