Today Jim Power Friends First economist predicted that unemployment may hit 15% next year. (Its 8 at the moment) This means that between 1 and 2 out of 10 people (yours friends for instance) could be out of the job next year!

If it is you who is out of the job, have you tought what you are going to do to survive or sustain a certain quality of life? Emigrate?cutbacks (what cutbacks)?

    Where would you emigrate to?

If I were to emigrate it would probably involve the foundation of my own country somewhere in the ocean.

You can come if you want.

I’ve been unemployed so many times now that I’ve lost track. I’ve been fired, laid off, quit, made redundant, walked out, and been thrown out. I’ve worked for con artists, multinationals, small medium and large business. I’ve been with start-ups and with blue chip companies. I’ve started a couple of business ventures of my own.

I’ve immigrated, emigrated and if there is any other kind of ’grated I’ve probably done that too. Being unemployed in a different country is still being unemployed. Packing up and leaving everything behind is difficult to do and without having a job or place to live at the other end is daunting to the point of terrifying. If you have a family of your own, Goatwifey and GoatKids, then it’s not really an option anymore.

Surviving unemployment is tough. The times of unemployment are entertaining for a month or two then the money runs out and your mates won’t carry you forever. No more takeaways, no more nights out. No trips to the cinema. Lovers leave. Move back in with the parents (shudder). Sitting around on yer arse, **** or playing on the Atari (FTW) initially sounds good but blisters occur after a while and all the fun goes out of it.
Going back to college to study is a nice idea but once again you have to have the funding. I still have that debt hanging over my head waiting to be paid. (How many times CAN you defer payment to the Student Loans Company?)

So, with a wealth of experience, the wisdom of age and the 20/20 perfect vision of hindsight what are my thoughts on the current threats of unemployment?
Get a job in the Civil Service.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.
