How much should I pay...

...my friend for his 97 Honda Civic that has no NCT at present and is not taxed.

There's 110,000 miles on her. Full service history, mechanically fine (he says).

It's just after coming back from the garage as someone tried to hotwire it a while back. But that should be sorted now.

It's 1.4 (not the hatchback one).

It had been NCT'd until 03/08 but that lapsed as he didn't have it on the road. And he reckons it will be fine cause it hasn't been driven in a year or 2 but who knows.

So how much do you think I should pay. He mentioned a price but I wanted to wait and see what you guys and gals said first.

    Thanks,

    K.

    300e tops.

    You'd get a clean one around 1k.

Aye it's not worth more than a few hundred. Potential for profit if it all works out. I'd be worried if it's been sitting for so long those, be very careful with things like brakes etc. make sure all lights etc. etc. etc. are working before driving. Check the tyre's incase they are in anyway perished. Be very careful with a car that has been sitting up, don't just start it and drive.

Bear in mind that if it turns out to be a lemon, you may begin to hate your friend (although the small sum involved may cancel this out).
Generally, I would avoid buying something like this off a friend.

Ok, thanks for the input guys.

He is looking for 800. The tax isn't an issue as it turns out. I'll just have to pay from now on, that's if I buy it.

So is 800 too much? I take the points about it sitting so long. I suppose the brakes, suspension etc could be affected from lack of use?

    Thanks again,

    K.

Ps I think if I do decide to buy it off him that I'll get him to NCT it first in case i get landed with a turkey.

If he gets an NCT on it he will be looking for more. If it does have a full service history it might be worth 500 but then does it need tyres etc. It could be a great buy but imo its a buy for the mechanically savy individual.

To be honest, without seeing it myself, i can't say it's work 800. No way.

at the current situation the buyer is the king,

so no point to pay 800e for car without ntc and tax.

Maybe €800 at a stretch if it had a long NCT and a good few months tax, and was in good condition.
As you've described it above, recent theft damage, lying up for a good while, no NCT or Tax, €200-€300 tops.

And if you got an NCT, it would only be until 03/10, so just over a year.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
