Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello,

    I was curious what the policy in this country is with regards to ISPs giving out their customer's information based on an IP and timestamp. Is it simply a case of ringing the ISP up and asking or does one have to go through the courts to do this? How well are customers protected from being identified? If a customer was doing something illegal e.g. filesharing, how hard would it be for a record label to find your personal information in order to prosecute you?

    Data protection act they have to go through court.

    "6. Right to prevent use of your personal details

    You can also ask a data controller not to use your personal details for purposes other than their main purpose – for example for marketing.

    You can do this by simply writing to the organisation or person holding your details and outlining your views. Within 40 days, they must do as you ask or explain why they will not do so."

    Basically eircom can't use our IP's for ****. What they're doing would seem to break this act.

    Doubht though they're actually going to be giving our details to anyone. If they can really even pinpoint who downloaded what without seeing your PC.

    I wrote about this in 2004.

    Since then the only relevant Irish development are the decisions of the High Court in EMI v. Eircom and Ryanair v. Johnston (unreported, summarised here).
