My Boss Doesn't Trust me...

I Know my boss doesn't trust me as today after I had done some text amends sent by the client to one of her jobs, she wasn't satisfied that they were done correctly and when I asked her if they were OK, she said she was going back over them to check them. This is just one of many examples. I have never made any major mistakes and I have worked in my current position almost 2 years now. I am hardworking and efficient, I am never late and have only ever had positive feedback from clients. I appreciate attention to detail but this checking up on me just undermines my hard work. I am sick of being treated like a child. Has anybody any tips on how to deal with a boss like this. It's driving me crazy and I am seriously thinking of packing in this job. Thing is, the company I work for have a great reputation and I don't want to have to resort to handing in my notice.

maybe she already trusts you for the work you are already carrying out, and is eyeing you up for increased responsibilties...maybe she's just the type of person who's trust is hard to earn...maybe she has high hopes for you and is looking after you???

how does she treat other staff?

perhaps chat with her and get it sorted, rather be upfront with her and if she has any doubts (even if they are unfounded) you can get them ironed out.

    best of luck

What sort of company do you work for? Do you work in a shop and she's making sure you packed the shelves ? Or do you repair life support machines?

Is it possible you have an inflated opinion of your competence? I work/have worked with some seriously incompetent people who thought they were doing a good job. For example, my ex-flatmate used to say the same thing (she worked in accounts) - her boss used to double check her work - and it was driving her nuts. However judging by the amount of letters she incorrectly sent to my apartment (instead of to her clients) I would believe she was in fact quite incompetent.

I know most people (including me) are unable to truely analyse themselves and see their faults, but have a strong think about the possibility that you might be wrong.

/Of course, it's possible your boss is just a bitch.
//Not a personal attack, I'm just throwing out an alternative opinion

Who signs off on the work? Who is legally qualified to stand over the accuracy of the work?
If your boss is the qualified person who is signing off on the validity of the work then she is fully entitled to look at it and examine it.
It will be her head if something wrong is sent out to clients.
2 years experience is short in my opinion and you could expect a level of supervision at that stage depending on the job.
It is much worse if you are being ignored and only given simple routine work.

It might just be that she feels under a lot of personal pressure to make sure that everything that goes near a client is right. I can imagine that a lot of businesses are using every possible excuse to delay payment of invoices or get reductions in the price of work. I'd particularly say this if this checking is resulting in very few corrections.

Even if you feel that you're being treated differently to others and are not trusted you should arrange to talk to her about it long before you consider giving notice.

Agree with all the above. If business is suffering in the current climate your boss may be under pressure to keep the clients you've got. I know it's a pain in the arse but I wouldn't advise doing anything rash!

Whether she trusts you are not all depends on how she treats the rest of her reports, if she has any.

If she double checks all their work you don't have an issue, if she just chseks yours there is a problem.

I have worked for a lot of different managers and evryone of them were different, some doublr checked everything and would leave you to make any decsions, others never checked a bean and couldnt care less what you did.

There are pro's and cons with both approaches. Basically if you are th eonly on she checks you are goosed.

How many people on the team? If there's more than you and her, are you the only person whose work is double-checked? Maybe she's not even being an arsehole, but just someone who isn't good at delegating.

As a mgr I check everything my teams send out to external clients and biz people internally because if wrong info is sent I have to explain why and I cant say it was one of my staff....they wont want to hear that and I would never drop one of my staff in it. I take responsibility so I check everything.

You may not know but perhaps your manager makes a few tweaks and changes before sending your work out and just doenst tell you. I usually end up fixing wording/grammer/formatting etc... on stuff and dont tell the person all the time (unless its major).

Maybe your good rep with clients is due to your managers extra diligence.....or like the other poster said, maybe she is just a control freak (I know I am!)...I'm not your boss by any chance???
