hey looking for some help. bought a new hard drive and got it today in
    the post

    drive : http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=428518&view=detailed#ProductTabs

I hooked it up to my old pc and when i turned it on i got the error message "the bios does not be installed" and press g etc...
i didnt think i would have an issue as i already have a sata drive in it (its been 3 years so i presume its a sata I model now)

after a bit of searching it seems that the drive is sata II (??) and an there are two ways to fix this issue

    1. Check the jumper settings on the hard drive and select the SATA-I mode.
    2. Update the bios (??)

i have tried the first way but it didnt have an effect, im am not even sure that the drive has jumpers (the first model didnt),will attach a picture of the drive at the end.

As for the second fix i have no idea how to update the bios or if that will even work.

Spec of pc : its around 8 years old and ive been adding parts to it over time.

    Currently : 3 HDD (2 ide [80GB and 120GB] one sata[380GB])
    Dvd +rw drive
    768 mb ram
Abit MB (dont know how to get more details ie bios version etc [pheonix])
    Amd processor

A lot of older motherboards have problems recognizing drives over 120gigs. I would suggest updating the bios. Is it a brand name machine(dell, hp etc?) or a custom build machine?

its custom built, but did it a long time ago! it already has a drive in over 120 gigs its been suggested to me that i could get a pci sata card, would that work? but first i think its worth a shot updating the bios / trying jumper on the drive etc as its worked for others...i just dont know what to do.

Ive been reading their technical library and came across info about changing the modes (see image)

does this seem to suggest that i can change the drive to Sata I mode using a boot cd(from their site) and another pc??

Another question i have is, what are the 2 pins the furthest right of the sata connectors? Also, can i update my bios without having a floppy drive
    thanks.
