Hi guys, i have a 2001 Audi A4. Was thinking about the possibility of getting leather seats?

Would this be a costly job??

Retro Fitted by Derek Nolan Autocare or Cartronics would cost €2,000 - €2,500.

It would probably be cheaper to get an interior from a Scrapyard and fit it (more work though).

Ring AIG Autoglaze in dolphins barn. Ask for Charlotte. They're reasonable enough and they have huge combinations. Think its something like €1500 for a mid-size car

+1 for Nolan Autocare. They do quality work. We got a new A4 done a few months ago down there and the total price came to 1400e inc VAT.

Might have gone up a small bit by this stage.

The scrapyard option would be more time, and hassle.

Thanks lads, would like to get a good quality job done...

Just for you to think about, in the current market spending €2k+ on leather seats for a 2001 A4 makes no financial sense. Better by far to change to a car that already has them.

Its always cheaper to get an interior from a higher spec car and retro fit it,for some of the prices quoted you would pick up a pretty good condition RS4 or S4 recaro interior from ebay.de/ebay.co.uk/decent breakers in the uk or one of the specialist audi owners forums, retro fitting it would be a 40-50 min job at most.I have done this twice in the past once i saved so much money i could actually afford to drive to the UK and pick it up (not ideal i know but i had free time and was up for a good road trip)

You don't mention if your A4 is a B5 or B6,so make sure you know yourself when going shopping for an interior.

The 2001 model was a B5. Mine is the most previous model(2006) and it is a B6.

I'm amazed you missed this thread:

As other posts have mentioned & I tend to agree with one of the two alternative options:

1: Genuine Audi leather interior from EBay or Audi specialist breakers in UK

    http://www.vw-audi-specialists.co.uk/

    http://www.volkswagenspares.com/page.php?page=Audi

    2. Sell your car & buy one of same year with leather

Does anyone else think it's madness putting them into the car at this stage?

I've never understood the attraction to Leather seats, I actually look for cars without them.

If he likes leather, and plans to keep the car a few years then why not? I put leather into a BMW I held for quite a few years, it was a quality job (Cartronics) and I never regretted it. Looked like new the day I sold it.

I have leather and to be honest I dont think I could go back. Its very easy to keep clean just a wet cloth to wipe it down. It looks good and it feels nice sitting into a leather interior. One con with it though is that you have to condition the leather every so often to keep it supple but it looks the business afterwards.

    2001 was a crossover year i.e B5 to B6 so you could have a 2001 B5 or B6.

I take it you've never seen a retro fit leather job by one of the professionals? If I put a factory leather car next to one done by Nolan Autocare/Cartronics/Autoglaze, neither you, I or proabably a dealer could tell the difference.

Leather is cut to pattern using either same spec leather as the factory, or sometimes higher grade leather.

I have a Superb due which will get Leather retro fitted so must take some photo's. You'll be able to tell it's not factory as the factory don't offer Grey leather as an option to match the rest of the interior - that's the only way you'll tell.

Do you mind me asking what you use to keep it supple and how you do it? How often is it done?

Auto Glym do a leather cleaner and a conditioner that keep things looking great.

I use Simoniz Leather Care Cream, easy to apply and rub in, keeps it looking slick.

I love sliding onto freshly conditioned leather! :D

I personally have never seen their work, but i have seen some dodgy leather re trims and nothing is worse,i would never get a retrim without seeing some examples of their work and talking to previous customers. The fact of the matter si though that a second hand leather interior fro ma higher spec car is always the best option, like i said earlier you could even pick up a recaro interior from an S4 or RS4,and there isn't a re trim around that can make your seat a recaro seat
