03 Passat 1.8t Fuel pump

I have started hearing a hum in the car the last few days.
I noticed today after parking a bit more aggressively that the note was changing. I thought maybe it had to do with revs, but when I revved the note was just a flat hum. So I jerked the car a bit to get the juice splashing in the tank, and the note wobbles again with the juice.
That's got to be a fuel pump? Filter never changed as far as I know (50k miles)

I know our US cousins have a recall for 02-03 Passat fuel pumps - how do I find out if VAG cover it in Ireland? I reckon If I called a dealer they would say no before I finished talking......

Its not a major job in any vw/audi Ive known. We had to have one changed in the first model A6 years ago as it had become very noisy. Letting car run out of petrol is supposedly very bad for these pumps.
