Is it too Late to Train for a Tri

    Guys
Is it too late to start training for a triathlon had hoped to do a few Olympic courses, but really want to do a half iron man, sometime in August, September like the lost sheep or Eireman.(I know experienced athletics will find this extremely silly). I do train and have trained for the marathon last October; I am from a sporting background however it was a few years before I got back training in September 2007.

The physical demands cannot be under estimated for such events however I am motivated to train away solo as I have no chance of joining a club, went swimming last week and a few tri guys were in the lane next to me had no problem keeping up. Finishing is my goal will be happy with my position provided I gave it everything.

I have asked a similar question before however over the last 10 weeks I had a lot going on, and not a huge amount of training took place so I put it to the back of my mind.

    Happy to hear all sides

No its not too late! My big goal is the Lost Sheep this year (Tunney has his reservations) and I'm a Tri newbie. You sound like you have plenty of ability and good fitness.

Write your goal down get stuck in and just do it! One tip I got was to be able to do at least 130% of each discipline so if you can do about 2,500m in the pool non stop, cycle about 120km and run about 17 miles you can handle each discipline. The trick then is building up some long brick sessions and of course doing a few Tris during the summer to get some experience of races :)

But hey what do I know I'm just mad to do my first one!

Go for it. You'll be sorry if you don't even try.
The HIM & IM are in August/September, so still 8 months to go.

23rd August Eireman IM and ½IM (Wexford)
30th August Half Ireman and Ireman 226 challenge (Co Down)
12th September The Lost Sheep ½IM (Kenmare)

Get yourself a book or two like 'beIRONfit' from Don Fisk (incl. 30weeks training plan for IM). This will help a structuring your training.

    Good luck.
