    Hi

Sorry if this has been discussed before, i looked through the threads and couldn't find what i was looking for.

I have an Eircom phonewatch system that i now own, and is not monitored any more. Does anyone know how to change it so that if it is activated that it calls my mobile phone rather than the monitoring company?

I have the Service password, so i can access the relevant menu system.

    Thanks for any help

    Kenny

They sometimes fit a 4/8 channel dialler which can only be used with a central station.
An add on voice dialler may be needed

i was under the impression that it was just a case of keying in the phone number that you wanted to be contacted in the event of an alarm? i.e. disconnect system from monitoring centre and key in your own contact numbers?

    thanks

It will ring the number you programme. But how would you record the message?
It will think its calling a central station & will keep emmiting tones trying to connect to their computer. It will just keep dialling the number after you hang up because it will think it has fail to connect.

    Correct.
You will need to get a stand alone voice dialler. These are very easy to install. You can get them from any security equipment suppliers.

I just had an alarm fitted and it plays a recorded message to the numbers that it rings. It can also send texts!

I know that this is a different type of alarm system, but with the money saved from monitoring you could simply buy one of these and a back up system for your phone line instead!

I was quoted €6 a week from Eircom for their most basic monitoring and maintenance. All someone had to do was cut the phone line and this money was wasted. That is €312 a year!! I could buy an entire alarm system for that.

The guy that helped me fit mine did a few extras, for example it has been programmed it to phone out straight away, instead of a 30 second delay like the standard monitoring stations insist on! I know 30 seconds sounds like very little, but for me it is a long time when an intruder in in your house.

    thanks for the replies.

Even if the alarm kept calling, it would be ok as you would know your house is getting broken into? i will look into the other options you suggested though.

the alarm i have can be accessed and controlled remotely, i.e. dial home phone number, enter access code, control the alarm.

    cheers again.

what type of phonewatch ssytem is it?
if its wired then a text dialer could be fitted as they mostly use hkc on the wired jobs.
if its a simon system then it might be a bit more diffiucult as its a 6 volt system inc the back up battery.
if its a concord then happy days as there is a programable part of the dialer menu that allows you to put in one phone number, and if this doesnt suit a stand alone dialer could easilly be wired up.

just to clarify the simon system is the small one they fit with the doors and windows button it
the concord is the larger one with the ywo antennas and the home and away buttons.
