Hi going to Edinburgh soon and would like some recommendations on pubs or restaurants.

The types of pubs I like here are Sin E, Ri Ra, Brogans, Gogans, Slattery's, Foggy Dew etc so any places like that will do just fine.

Also some restaurants like Chaper one, the winding stair or a nice italian.

    regards

Bannermans in the Cowgate is usually a good spot, basically if you are in the city centre avoid drinking north of Princes street (Rose Street/George Street) and stick to the Old Town.Edinburgh doesnt have the same "late bar" thing as Dublin, pubs are open til 1 and clubs until 3, apart from August and Christmas through New Years day, when it can be 3 and 5. There are a few exceptions - Pivo on Carlton Road and Whistle Binkies on South Bridge are OK for a late pint and are not simply meatmarkets.

Best pub in the city by a mile is the Port O' Leith on Constitution Street in Leith, a bit off the tourist trail but well worth the taxi fare on a friday or saturday night.

Worlds end pub on Royal mile is a great littel pub with nice ales and good food, 3 Sister's in haymarket is also a good spot to meet people.

The Hogs head is a good spot for a few drinks and grub. I think they do 2 plates for one most of the time. Its on one of the small side streets between Princes street and Rose Street. Its in a basement. When you come out of the pub up the steps you can see Castle up the hill. Looks cool at christmas or when its snowing! Rose street has a lot of pubs and restaurants. I usually spend a good bit of time down there when i'm in Edinburgh.
