Our Passat has had its rear door damaged by some lady who wasn't watching where she was going.

It is currently awaiting an insurance assessor to come out an look at the car. I have got a quote for the repair which includes a new door.

Is it possible to claim a certain amount for increased depreciation? When the time comes to sell of course we will be disclosing that we have had the rear door replaced ...........

Offhand I think that most insurers are generally willing to pay approximately 10% of the repair cost (parts and labour ex. VAT) for depreciation. Not much compensation is it. You'll have to argue your case with them and if the car is more than three or four years old they may refuse to pay it.

TBH I couln't see a new door making much difference to the cars value. If it was a crash into something I'd say something but a stationary tip isn't much if properly repaired. You'll find most cars will have had something like this repaired at some stage in their lives but if they entertain the claim by all means see what they offer

Its an 06. My wife was driving it and someone hit her from the side.

Pi$$ed off because the car was unmarked up to this.
