How many Environment Ministers does it take to change a lightbulb?

You have to love the gormless-greens, last week they were cutting back
on buses and public transport this week a quick u-turn on their light bulb ban.

Maybe it'll teach the ozone friendly crusties who voted them into power with Fianna Fail a lesson.

I'm glad that the Government has its priorities in order.

this clever government of ours is reducing the number of buses operating in the city and introducing a congestion charge for motorists

Fantastic. This was one of the most idiotic proposals to come from the greens.

If they really cared about the environment anyway, they would have looked at LED bulbs. They provide the exact same level of light at about 20% of the power and last about 20 years. Unlike CFLs which are less efficient and need to "warm up", which is unacceptable for a number of applications.

What he should do is provide tax incentives for research into these bulbs. Once research has brought LED bulbs to the stage where they're about €20 a pop, then you provide grants and tax relief to existing manufacturers to convert their facilities and then tax the bollox out of standard incandescent bulbs.

A householder would pay between €200 and €400 to replace all the bulbs in their house, but they would see massive reductions in their electricity bills and would only have to replace a bulb maybe three times in their lifetime.

The only credible thing this party could do is break this coalition government and force an election...
Not that there's an alternative party choice :(

Eh no. The ban was on incandescent light bulbs. It had nothing to do with LED lights. There is no reason they couldn't be used.

Aside from the fact that it isn't a U-turn just a delay to see what the EU legislates for. Saving us more time and energy!

Bring on the Green Wipeout of the local/european and next general elections. A series of silly proposals, laughable u-turns on their manifesto and own party history, and plenty of inhouse fighting. A minority left-wing and a party leader whos about as popular in his own constituency as the recession.

    Buh-bye.

I'm the last person to go into politics etc, but the Green party are just a bunch of ****ing idiots.

Light bulbs? Seriously, with all the job losses, crappy roads, rubbish city, the best they have is LIGHT BULBS and CYCLING to work???

    *rage*

Two - one to change the bulb and another to change his party's name to The Yellows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,230 ✭✭✭✭walshb

The whole light bulb ban really sheds light on the useless policies and waste of time this party is. Country in meltdown and folks barely able to pay their bills and crime rampant etc etc; but a light bulb will save it all!

Why doesn't Gormless Gormley go to China and India and America and lecture them. They are the ones guzzling the earth of its resources and polluting it thousands of times more than Ireland, a small puny ISLAND WITH 4+ million people!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,815 ✭✭✭✭galwayrush

Reminds me of a cartoon where someone with an idea springs a lightbulb. this one shattered, but the Greens are like a cartoon political party.

food runing scarce and a getting lot dearer, and 25% of the national herd to be culled to meet our greenhouse gas commitments, so china are opening a coal burning power station each week, and the greens want to bankrupt us with ideaoligy, after clown cowen putting the country on its knees, the problem is will my vote and the vote of like minded people be sufficent to change all this ****e that is called goverment.

with a few poxy light bulbs. Obscene. Yeah, because light bulbs in houses in Ireland is what's causing the earths' demise:rolleyes:

You can take your carbon footprint and stick it up my ass. I don't care, I'm using electricity as long as I'm on this planet. I love turning stuff on, I love having giant TVs everywhere. If I could drive an electric car with a TV in it, I would. I don't care about how much electricity I'm using.:p

At the end if the day its GeeGee, Gormless Gormley - the green (night)mare! we talking about.
His ideas are as uselful as a fart in the wind and full of the same hot air!

I don't think he's a complete gobschite but whats my opinion compared to thousand of others!
I mean if bullschite was music, he'd be a whole ceili band.
If brains were taxed, he'd be due a rebate.
Its not so much he's not playing with a full deck, more like he's not even in the game and I wouldn't cross Grafton street to piss on him if his jocks were on fire.

...O' and did I mention Mother Nature hates him - he reminds her of her mistakes!

    Nope - I don't like him anyway!
