Hi Guys, I'm new here so hello! smile.gif
I've booked a holiday for my OH for his bday in Glasgow. Trip Advisor reviews described the hotel (Quality Hotel Glasgow) as "The Shining" and made it sound horrendous!
HAs anyone stayed there? Unbiased opinions welcome? It looks well scary...... frown.gif

    Cheers!

Cheap and cheerful.. Its part of Central Station and is pretty much centre of town. Its a fairly old building with long corridors that stretch the length of the train station. Stayed in it a few times.. rooms are basic but clean. Bar stays open quite late too, had a many a late nights drink in it.

Walk across the road to "The Goose on Union Street"

Pub with good craic & much cheapness.

For something a bit more upmarket, walk up Union Street till you get to "The Drum & Monkey"
Great pub with lots of comfy couches.

Well I have returned from the Quality Hotel, Glasgow and I am still alive, have all my toes and my head didnt rotate 360degrees at any stage during my trip. So if you havent booked the hotel for your break yet here is my full and frank update:

    Bads
    (1) No-one at reception when I arrived and had to bang on the door after about 5 minutes of no service. The lady at the desk said "aye breakfast is from eeehh 7 i think....untill...eh 10...I think". Not a great start
    (2) 2 out of 3 lifts not working
    (3) The corridors have to be seen to be believed. I havent seen The Shining but I can imagine this is what it was like. Long, wide corridors that span the full length of the train station and the lights are so dim that you cant see to the end of the corridors. Real dingy like. Stains all over carpets-booze and worse Im sure. Now here is the worst part: some of the doors along my floor were boarded up and had no knobs...I always ran past those doors and it freaks me out to think what once went on behind them..
    (4) Smell of stale smoke in all areas and rooms
    (5) I only had single room and it was tiny even for one person
    (6) I never mind old fashioned decor if it is well manitained but my room had wallpaper hanging off and mismatched pieces patching up holes.
    (7) My sheets bunched up under me and I noticed stains all over the mattress-no mattress protector
    (8) Found a can of Carlsberg under my bed-not even far under. It was visible without even bending down
    (9) Very poor atmosphere and no comfortable and warm public area to relax, have some coffee and watch the world go by

    Goods:
    (1) The building is beautiful and majestic and would have been fantastic in its day-the winding staircases have to used, they make you feel like a 1920s icon!
    (2) The brekkie was v nice, basic but it had all you needed
    (3) LOCATION*3. Just brilliant: literally walk straight off the train fronm Prestwick and straight into the hotel reception. Walk straight out the main door and you are on the main shopping street!
    (4) I paid €25 per night with brekkie included so for that price it offers good value for money
    (5) Clean bathrooms
    (6) Cheap drink deals: all bottles at £2. While I wasnt on a boozy weekend I defintely would appreciate that deal if I was!
    (7) Room was nice and warm yet the window would open fully so you could regulate things yourself. That rarely happens in hotels there days-either too hot or cold!

All in all as gross as it was I would stay here again but on 3 conditions (1) the price was a good deal (2) I was on a boozy weekend and only using the room to sleep for a few hours and a place to store shopping (3) I wasnt at a conference like I was whereby I was on my own and had the whole evening anf night (once Borders closed!) to spend in the room.

Hope that helps...and enjoy the Glasgow break wherever you stay!
