Exhaust Replacement Question

    Hi
My 98 audi a4 has started to sound like a tractor recently. I brought it into Advance Pitstop this morning and they said that the front pipe needs to be replaced. They said that since this part doesn't come sperately they'll have to replace the catalytic converter as well. The price for this is €575. The car is only worth about €1500 at the very best. Can anyone suggest a cheaper option?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!

That doesnt sound right, I think they maybe trying to squeez you.

What exactly do they mean by the front pipe?

As in what specific part of the exhaust?

Get a mechanic to look at it for a start.

Its the first 2 secions of the exhaust: the front down pipe and the catalytic converter (i think!). Its only the front down pipe that is knackered but they said that you can't get the two parts seperately.

I'd be astonished if you can't find somebody to bend and weld a bit of pipe for less than that. First order of business is to get an indie to have a look.
