    Hi,

Well if the test is in 2 days then I hope you've starting prepartion before now :D

First thing to understand is there are no 'tricks' to passing the driving test, there are lots of myths around about using exaggerated head movements, driving very cautiously, not driving a 'sporty' car etc - ignore all those things.

The driving test requirements are very well documented in lots of books, web etc. You should know exactly what is expected from you and then do your best to execute to that. It is obviously harder to put something into practice than to just read about it in theory and hence the need for lots and lots of practice.

Some main points to remember are :
    • Arrive at the test center in good time (about 15-20 mins early at least)
    • Dont forget your Learner Permit!!
    • Know and understand the rules of the road including the road signs
    • Familiarise yourself with the car you are using, know the engine layout, the secondary controls inside the car etc
    • Ensure your insurance, tax, NCT (if applicable) are all in date and correct for the car you are driving
    • Ensure you have L Plates up front and rear
    • Ensure that your indicators (front and rear) and your brake lights are working
    • Know what is required for the driving part (i.e. you will be asked to perform 3 maneouvers : hill start, turnabout and reverse)
    • If you dont know what Mirror - Signal - Maneouver means then get some lessons!!
    • Try and relax as much as possible
    • Drive confidently but not aggressively - dont be too hesitant emerging from junctions etc if the way is clear
    • Take good all round observation at all times but especially during the turnabout and reverse
    • Dont forget your blindspot checks (again if you dont know what this is - get lessons!!!)
    • Be smooth with all controls, dont rush them. Especially for the clutch, leave it up slowly after every gear change.
    • Keep away from the clutch pedal unless you are changing gear or just about to come to a stop.
If you have more specific questions on any aspect feel free to post again...

    Best of luck with it!!

Just one other 'tip' that I forgot :

When you arrive at the test center before the test find a nice parking space and reverse into it - that way it is easier to drive out when you are starting the test.

By the same token, when you get back to the test center find the easiest space you can and drive straight into it! There is no requirement on you to do a 'reverse park' during the test but if you attempt it and make an error you will be faulted for it - so keep things simple!
